I'm a few days shy of 36 weeks. Went to see my m/w yesterday and she said I'm already 1-2 cm dilated. I have an old case of herpes and she said I should go on Valtrex now. She told me that very little crosses the placenta, it's given to babes who do contact herpes during birth and it's a safe way to go. Has anyone else had his experience? I am nervous to take drugs, but certainly don't want a c-section (which I would have to have if any sores are present). I guess I'll just throw my trust to the universe and start to take them.

I don't know much about herpes and pregnancy, except that there is a chance it can be passed onto the baby if there is an outbreak so they used to do scheduled cesareans for moms who had herpes. I have heard that it is possible to deliver vaginally and a scheduled cesarean is not necessay.
I don't like to take medicines either, but I think I would take the valtrex in your case. It certainly beats scheduling a cesarean!

I dont know anything about it other then what you just mentioned but I suppose, for what it's worth, if it were me I would take the valtrex. If they use it to acctually treat babies with out breaks, then it sounds pretty safe.

Well, if it can prevent a c/s or the child catching it, I'd say it's probably worth a try. I hope it works! Good luck

Thanks all. I chose to take the Valtrex. It's more important that the baby is safe when being delivered vaginally. I trust it was the right decision for me.

It sounds like you made a thoughtful decision with your baby's best interest at heart. What a good mommy you are already!
Today, I decided to take codeine cough syrup. I think I deserve a little more guilt, since I'm "only" making myself comfortable (not curing/preventing any illness), but, darn it, I am so miserably sick with this cold/cough, and I haven't been able to sleep.
I finally got a few hours of restful sleep with the medicine this afternoon.
