YES!!!!

i loved this book!

her spiritual journey is so similar to mine (though, granted, i have not had the opportunity to travel as she has or spend any time in meditation retreats) that her story really hit a chord with me.

and i adored the italy stories! esp the big tough football fans on their motorcycles going out for baked goods after a match

so yes-listen to mama ganoush and read this book!

I'm actually re-reading it for the third time. I love Elizabeth Gilbert, all of her books are fantastic.

I borrowed this from the library on CD's and then I HAD to copy it onto my iPod.

I love it. LOVE it!! She is really an amazing storyteller. And the audiobook is great because sometimes when she gets real deep I think that my mind would wander if I was reading, but it goes so fast when listening that I pay attention better, if that makes sense!

Fabulous book! I loved every minute of it -- makes me want to head for the ashram, for sure. I've tried to meditate with varying degrees of success and so wish I could really learn.

I listened to the audiobook, which Elizabeth read. It was fantastic!

Awesome Book! The coolest thing is that so many women I know who read it felt like they could relate to it so intimately and these are women in all different walks of life. She definitely hit some nerve, some kind of new perspective about being female and finding your way in this world.

I heard she's writing a new book about marriage. She's getting remarried (to Felipe from E, P, L I believe). I can't wait to hear her thoughts on giving marriage another try!

p.s Could you not TASTE the food she was describing in Italy?

Overall, I loved it.

But I have to say that the shine started to fade for me in Indonesia. : It felt like she started getting a litte too full of herself and a little too preachy.

It's still a great book though, and I would wholeheartedly recommend it. :

I've recently read this book and really enjoyed it. There's a small section near the beginning of the book which made me laugh out loud, that being when she was praying to God said...

'I've always been great admirer of your work'

Peace

Yes! Loved it, too, although I was a little bored by the Italy part (we live in Rome, so kind of BTDT for me). Loved the India part the best and I am really dying to try out some yoga and meditation this fall, all as a result of the book. So inspiring.

I am suppose to be reading this for my book club - thanks for the reminder!
I'll be back!

I just finished. I think it was one of the best books I've read in a while. I loved it.

I also bought dh "The Last American Man", which Gilbert also wrote (and was a finalist for the National Book Award)... it sounds kinda like Little House on the Prairie for guys, lol.... a man living off the land in Appalachia eeking out his own living etc. A true story / biography. I can't wait to read it next.

Back to Eat Pray Love, this book has be thinking of reconsidering meditation. I've tried before but, I don't know, it doesn't work for me. I could really relate to Gilbert's description of her first days in India, sitting there with her own thoughts interfering all the time, unable to turn off the constant stream of thoughts. That is me to a T. I can't just relaaaaaaax into it and focus. Maybe I need a new mantra.

Has anyone checked out her website? It's pretty cool, and has a funny FAQs section www.elizabethgilbert.com

In terms of "what to read next", I am now reading Plenty which is about a couple's conscious decision to eat only those foods coming from within 100 miles of their home near Vancouver. It is really a lovely story so far, and it also has lots of recipes and interesting tidbits about what they're eating and how they're preparing it. It's certainly different than Eat Pray Love, but it is all the same thing I've been interested in recently, i.e., HOW to live your life consciously.

Eat, Pray, Love inspired me more to start practicing my yoga more often and attempt to embrace silence on a more regular basis.... I was feeling a little cynical when I first picked it up. I was hoping that it wouldn't be another The Monk Who Sold His Ferrari, which I enjoyed at first, but then became annoyed with, but no, Eat, Pray, Love didn't disappoint me.

Peace
