I'm eating well and taking vitamins, I have no idea why this is happening.

Mine seems to be breaking off like damage/split ends...
yuck.

Don't remember this at all with my first.

Waiting for the reassurance that I'm not just getting old.

your not getting split ends from age.

But you have to look at how you're treating your hair. Are you blow drying alot, curling iron, what kind of brush? Going for regular trims? dying or highlighting? What kind of shampoo? hard or soft water?

I've been going nuts with my hair too! lol.... look at those things and if you want, feel free to answer them and I'll let you know where you might be getting those pesky split ends from.

can you tell hair has become the only thin g I have to think about lately? lol... well not the only thing, but keeping my hair looking nice right now has become a personal priority... it's one of the few things I can still reach with out much effort! Forget my toes and legs!!!!

And there's also the hormonal angle...lots of mamas find that their hair changes after the babe is born since the pregnancy hormones have been plumping things up for the last few months and now, as levels start to change, the hair goes too.

I keep my hair really short so it wasn't too noticable last time (well, not to anyone else), but I remember combing my hair and just having so much hair on the comb it was freaky!

So I started pampering my "locks" a bit more in that last month, which feels nice (especially since I've written off my lower half as well), but I don't know if it will help! My body just seems so hyper in terms of hormonal response!

Never blow dry or use an iron. I have 2 brushes - a metal round one w/plastic bristles (round-tipped), and a wooden one w/wooden bristles.

>>Going for regular trims?

No

>>dying or highlighting?

Never have.

>>What kind of shampoo?

I use Shakai - natural - nothing fancy... and a tiny bit of Burts Bees avocado hair balm after I get out of the shower - before letting my hair dry

>>hard or soft water?

Not sure! How can I tell?

I do have split ends and I just had 4 inches cut off a couple of weeks ago. Everyday my shirt is covered in hair that is 1-2 inches long and I have shoulder length hair. I stopped using a hair dryer, but I use a flat iron 2-3 times a week. I have thin, baby fine hair. Not sure what I'll do if I can't use heat styling products. My hair is wavy frizzy any other way.

Things I've learned while growing my own hair out (to hip-length!):

Brushing through tangles will break off your hair. Try a wide-toothed shower comb for detangling, and only use it when your hair is dry. Use a soft brush (like a boar bristle brush) for smoothing your hair.

If your hair is long enough, braiding or bunning it will protect the ends. Avoid the elastics with metal on them, and try to vary your styles so the same part of the hair isn't always being compressed by your hair accessories.

Use a small amount of coconut or jojoba oil on the very ends of your hair to help with split ends and flyaway bits. Get a fingertip-full, warm it between your palms, and run your hands through the lower part of your (dry) hair. This shouldn't be enough to make it look greasy. You can also slather it on for an hour or so before you wash your hair.

Try occasionally washing your hair with a cheap conditioner (like Suave or Pears) instead of your normal shampoo + conditioner routine. Saturate your hair with it, let it sit, rub it into your scalp, and rinse out thoroughly. Your hair will look and smell clean, but your scalp may feel oily a few days sooner than it otherwise would.

And if you can, try to increase the interval between shampooings.

Basically, the more you handle your hair, the more it will break.

Hope that helps!

THis is something that I have had through all my pg's. I am guilty though, I have the most chemically processed hair. I dye it, high-lite it, and fry it with a blow dryer. I have noticed that since I have started to quit the high-lites and blow drying it has improved significantly. I also use a leave in conditioner and a moisturizing treatment weekly. I also stopped washing my hair everyday. I know that It will fall out though after the baby is born.... Now if there was a remedy for that I would love to know it!!!!
