I woke up at 5:30 to go to the bathroom and had a strong urge to hear the baby’s heartbeat. So, I woke up Doug and asked him to get the Doppler to listen to the heartbeat. It was strong and normal, so we got back in bed. At 5:50 I felt the baby punching, and then there was a gush! He broke the waters. Before moving we checked the heartbeat again, and it hadn’t changed. We called the midwife and doula to let them know. A short time later the contractions started coming. We went down to the bathroom, but it was really cold so I asked Doug to start the shower for me. I tried to shower, but it was too intense so I had to get out. Doug started filling the birth tub as I got in the shower. The contractions were so close together I was having a hard time brushing my hair and putting it up. So I was standing in the bathroom leaning on the changing table, trying to breathe though the rushes, wondering why they were so intense. They were more uncomfortable than with my first son. I just kept telling myself there was nothing to fear and made deep vowel sounds. I was feeling surprisingly nauseous, but my stomach was empty. So I called to Doug to bring me some Recharge to drink. Suddenly, I started feeling my body push, and I told Doug to call the Midwife back and tell her. I got down on the floor on my hands and knees, and breathed though the rushes while Doug was setting up Robin, who just woke up, to watch a show in the other room. Doug came in at 6:28 and I told him I felt a lot of pressure and Doug said that it was the head, and not to push. But I wasn’t pushing anyway, only breathing. Up until this time Doug didn’t realize how close I was, because I wasn’t making any loud sounds, just breathing and making very deep vowel sounds. On the next rush, the shoulders came out and Doug kept the baby from hitting the floor. Time: 6:30. Doug had the forethought to prop the video camera up on some towels when he saw me get on hands and knees. The birth took 3 minutes! He passed the baby up to me, and I reclined back into a squat, and then Doug brought Robin right in to meet his brother. A half hour of labor and I was holding my baby in my arms. One hour after that the midwife showed up and we checked out fine. No tears, small split, no stitches. I feel great.

for Robin and that new sweet babe, and lots of
for you. Happy babymooning!
