Adoptions in the UK don't happen at birth either. A baby would be placed with foster parents before being given to the adoptive parents.
I didn't read the OP saying anything about the adoption happening at birth. Maybe I missed it.
I did wonder, however, about the birth certificate issue. The OP doesn't mention the will here, just the birth certificate. Elsewhere apparently she mentioned being in the will.
By the way, seriously if we name a guardian for our children in our will, they still have to prove themselves to social services after we die before they can get our children? Shouldn't I have the right to make the decision about my children's guardian without interference from social services?
