Break down of weight gain - how much is fluid etc...

Hey, last pregnancy it seemed like every where I looked I saw the break down of "why you gain the weight you do".... extra blood, amniotic fluid, weight of uterus, breast increase yadda yadda yadda. But for some reason I can't find it now! Does any one know what the break down of all that stuff is and how much it all weighs "total"?

There's one in my pregnancy book, but I'm feeling lazy & don't want to type it all out. So, I did a google search, and this was the first link (I didn't even look around the site to which I'm linking... so I'm not vouching for the content... ) Also, it looks like it does give a "recommended weight" gain of 25 - 35 pounds, which I scoff at, as I've gained over 45# each time so far. So, keeping the "standard" in mind, you may want to adjust their break down accordingly (don't know how much you've gained)... but I think it's what you're looking for.

Wow, 4-5 lbs of increased blood volume?

Has anyone else who's read these lists every wished she could plop her breasts on a little postage scale or something just to see how much they really weigh?

I don't know why it matters, but this is one of those life temptations for me! (I bet much like the compulsion I've heard teenage boys have to take a ruler to their... um... "man"-hood... )

There's no way it's *only* a pound of extra boobage for me! (And, yes, it is awful tempting to throw the "girls" on a scale. Maybe one of these days....)

I remember weighing myself as I was on the way to the hospital to have #1. And the first thing I did was hop back on the scale the minute I was home (2 days later). I was so mad!!! 7 1/2 pound baby, placenta, no more amniotic fluid , blood loss, etc, etc, etc. -- and I was down a whopping 4 pounds. It just wasn't fair!

A good friend of mine just had a baby 8lbs 12oz via c section and was down 30lbs at her 1week appt. Does anyone know what is "normal" avg weight loss? I think I lost about 20lbs with dd by week one or two. I've only gained 10lbs this time just wondering what I can look forwards too. (should we have a new thread for this?)

Normal? Bah! You just won't know until you get there. (Sorry, that's not helpful, but I think it is true.)

I wasn't much on the numbers, but I know I didn't get back into my pre-pregnancy pants (and it was a TIGHT squeeze) until DS was well over a year old.

Then again, we had breastfeeding difficulties, so I was really careful to eat a LOT and I was also careful not to exercise too vigorously nor would I wear a tight sports bra. I was so protective of my milk supply.

It is amazing how, after pregnancy, you can be even MORE HUNGRY when nursing. You need more calories to breastfeed than to gestate!

Some women drop heaps of weight almost immediately, and, for some, that triggers nursing problems. Some of us don't finish losing the weight until our babies are weaned, or have cut back significantly on their nursing.

I didn't make intentional weight-loss efforts until DS was down to bedtime/comfort nursing only, and around age 2. Now, I'd gotten back into my "normal" clothes, but not *ALL* of my old stuff, as, like many women, I had a range of sizes in my closet. (And that is in spite of my never being a yo-yo dieter!)

This may be another thing where you should ask your mother her experience?
