i recently got turned onto him via a youtube video, and i rushed out and bought his two main albums ("9" & "O") and now i'm hooked!!!

his music is just so beautifully written and i love how lisa hannigan's voice weaves in and out with his on so many of the songs (i am *very* bummed that she no longer sings with him-i'll never get the chance to see them live together! )

so-any other rice lovers out there?

aww, nobody?? that's too bad

(though if you've seen "closer", you have actually heard him-he sings "the blower's daughter" aka "can't take my eyes off of you" in that movie)

i wish i could get more people hooked on this guy 'cause he's just so wonderful! (and no, i don't work for him or anything..lol)

Thanks for posting this! I was just looking around for some new tunes to listen to and checked-out the YouTube vids like you said. I love it! I'm acquiring it in a totally legal way as we speak.

I Damien Rice!!! I first heard of him a while ago from a friend who saw him at bonaroo and dme that I would like his music. My friend was right - I love it! I know I've seen other posts about him here before, but it's been a while. I'm glad you found him too!

damien is good alright! i saw him live quite a few times, and yes, it is a pity that lisa left. it'll not be the same without her. and to be honest, the last couple of shows i went to, he did way too much ad-libbing for my taste. way too self indulgent. i liked him better in the olden days, when he was a bit more humble.

but yes, O is a masterpiece. and 9 comes close fer sure.

oh, and if you like irish acts, you might want to check out the frames. they are an irish band that actually used to have damien open for them in ireland, before he went global.

lots on youtube:
http://youtube.com/results?search_qu...&search=Search

but you can also go to their site:
www.theframes.ie

oh, and if you like quiter music, a la damien rice, make sure you check out "the swell season", glen's (from the frames) side project. http://www.myspace.com/theswellseason

phew! i swear i'm not on their payroll. they're just my favorite band. ever.

i get so happy when i'm able to turn someone else on to an artist i think is great-(yes, i am THAT much of a dork!) unfortunately it doesn't happen to often 'cause most of what i listen to is kind of..unusual. (ok-weird. lol)

and melanie-lucky you to have seen him live! he's playing in detroit next week and i wanted to go see him so so so bad, but i don't think we can fit it into the budget

oh well-maybe next time he comes around

oh, and anabean-i'll definitely check out the frames!

Oh, I love him too! He's wonderful and the woman he sings with is wonderful too! I keep saying she should make a solo album.

Can't stand him. Used to love him. But that one song "Is that alright now" or whatever was my dh's fave, and I thought he was having an affair, so I can't listen to anything now. sorry. :
