This is the prettiest carrier, and fit my shoulders and figure (at 5'6") much better than the Ergo. I got it when my daughter was about nine months, two years ago - it doesn't appear to have...

Here's what I did. I used foam board, duct tape, thin cotton batting, felt, flannel and a wooden frame from a second hand store.
Cut the foam board so that it would fit into the frame. Wrap one side of the foam board with the batting, like you're wrapping a package and use the tape to secure the batting to the back of the board. Place the flannel over the batting/board and duct tape as well. Place finished board in frame and voila! The batting and flannel will add some volume, so if you use a frame you will want to keep this in mind.
If you want to be really fancy, you can cover the unsightly duck-tapey back up with brown packing paper. Use double sided taped and place it on the back of the wooden frame. Stick the paper on the back and cut of the excess with an exacto knife. I drilled holes into the back of the frame and added metal eyelets and picture hanging wire. I also used those stick-on rubber corner stops so the felt board wouldn't slide around on the wall.
For the felt pieces I traced objects from dd's books and magazines.
