MY Sil is 41 weeks and is having cramping but no bloody show. Her OB says he is going to induce on Monday and she doesn't want that. So she took 2 tblspoons of castor oil. Any other advise please. TIA

here is a great l ink for all the "natural" induction methods

http://www.gentlebirth.org/archives/natinduc.html

That being said, can she fight him on this? 41 weeks is normal for an OB to want to induce but it's her baby her body and if she doesn't want to be induced yet than she can say no or just not show up for the induction, they can't MAKE her go. I understand it's tricky and lots of women are scared of rocking the boat. But barring and medical complications with her or the babe, it's probably best to wait.

Hi,

i did check out the "gentlebirth link" and confirmed some other ideas i had to help her. I haven't heard from her this AM so i am assuming that not much happened after the castor oil??
I completely agree with you about just not agreeing to the induction on Monday. My SIL is kinda young and i don't think her DH would completely support going against "doctors orders"; he is an RN. I am going to call her in a bit to see if i can talk to her about keeping the docs pitocin away for a while. It is difficult for me to do much for her b/c she is three hours away. Please send her labor vibes : )
Thank-you for your help.

With castor oil, to get the full effect the more the better, I think the rec. cdose is 2 oz then an hour later 2 more oz. This should get something going.

I've always heard castor oil isn't reccomended, as it doens't really start labor for the general population of women, it just gives them insane diarreah and makes them miserable. *shrug*
A couple friends reccomended to me last time doing squats and eating eggplant parmesean (Sooo yummy) and lots of sex Sex worked for me last time lol. (but make sure there's an orgasm with it. )

The recomended dose I heard from a Midwife was 2T. every hour for 3 hours. (3 doses).
I took 1T. (which did NOTHING) and then 4 hours later took 2T. which did EVERYTHING! (including labor!)
I had already tried all the things on the "list" and nothing was working...castor oil was my last resort.
I took my 2T. dose at 8 pm and my water broke at 3:30am, baby was born at 4:45am!

Good luck to your SIL!!!
