First of all, do not feel bad about returning items that you don't want or need. I just had my baby shower & I already have a bag of stuff to return. It's wasteful to let things go to waste just b/c you are worried about hurting someone's feelings.

As for the pacifiers, I see no harm in using them except for one reason (see below). Many hardcore BF sources say that pacifiers can cause nipple confusion. I've seen plenty of babies use them (once nursing is fully established) with no problems. If it can bring the baby some comfort without having to have your boob in his/her mouth, I say go for it. Plus my friend who is a lactation consultant says that nipple confusion is a myth.

A more important issue than anything else in my mind is that I wouldn't want my child sucking on a plastic product that is made from PVC or some other toxic plastic that will leach harmful chemicals directly into you baby via his/her mouth. If the pacifiers are plastic, I would trade them in for silicone.
