Bedding for eczema

My DS has had eczema since he was 6 months old. I am trying to eliminate any allergens that I can-including dust mites. He has an organic cotton and wool mattress. We have organic wool puddle pads and organic cotton sheets. I wash the sheets in hot water everyday. I had been washing the puddle pads once a month, if I switch to every week with hot water I am afraid they will shrink.

Should I switch to an enclosed mattress cover?

Wool can be allergenic. I know a few people who are allergic to wool (and lanolin).

Stick with cotton bedding. 100% cotton is best.

Can the wool cause a problem even if dc doesn't come into direct contact with it?

I have the exact same setup as you do. Wool and cotton organic mattress followed by a wool puddle pad followed by an organic cotton pad and then the sheet. My son was also sleeping with an organic cotton wool pillow. I have ordered a mattress cover and pillow cover as well for dust mites. Right now, I have taken away his wool pillow and covered his mattress in plastic until his covers get here. The thing is, if he's allergic to the wool, will a mattress cover even help with that? I don't know. My son is covered in eczema right now. We are still working on what is causing it. It is my undersatnding that if you are allergic to wool that it can be near you as well and cause problems. Can you try letting him sleep somewhere else for a few days?

I think I will try getting a dust mite cover. I wonder also about just being near wool if that creates a problem.

Yesterday I took the raw milk my son drinks and the wool pillow he has to his NAET appt. He was fine with the milk but was VERY sensitive to the wool pillow. She said we definitely needed to get him away from it until he can be treated. She did say that it could be dust mites and not the wool. She didn't know since the pillow is not new and is enclosed in cotton. I have been told that dust mites do not like wool though so it may more likely be just the wool he is allergic to.

Something to think about anyway. It sounds like we are dealing with the same things. My ds looks much better since we started NAET. He is really looking good today. I really noticed a change after the vit c treatment.

Have you tried taking your ds out of his surroundings? Like moving to a room with no carpet and no wool? Last night we moved to our family room where we have all hardwood and shutters and leather couches. I washed all bedding. We put ds on the aerobed on the floor. He went all night long without scratching. I have done this once before but he slept on hs wool pillow so it didn't help. lol Try getting him away from his mattress and dust mites.

I am looking at either getting an all cotton mattress or using the barrier cover on his wool mattress. The lady I bought his mattress covers from seems to think that will help if he's allergic to the wool. I don't know though. Tonight we will stay away from any wool again to see if it makes a difference again in his sleeping.

Oh, one more thing. I was also using aquaphor. Aquaphor has lanolin in it so it could also cause itching in someone allergic to wool. I switched to plain olive oil at the suggestion of my homeopath. That may also be making a difference.

Thanks for all this info! Figuring out these allergies is a puzzle. We have had one BioSET clearing so far, on the proteins. BY the way, my practitioner is asking for all the money up front for 34 sessions. Is this normal protocol? It makes me very uncomfortable that she asked me to do this. It is $2100 that she is asking for. I am a new client and I found her from the BioSET website, so I didn't even get a personal recommendation for her. Although after the first consultation I got a really good feeling from her. I don't get a good feeling about the payment though.

Hmmm, I would be leary about that. My practitioner has a package of 10 treatments and then you get one free. It brings the price down for each NAET treatment to $45. I am still paying the $65 per session though just because I wanted proof before I paid that it would work. I think you should tell her flat out you will not be paying for all of the treatments up front. Tell her your dh said he was not comfortable with it or something and that you don't even know if this will work. If she won't keep you as a client then I would leave. Most people don't have that kind of money sitting around at their disposal.

I am allergic to wool. My MIL keeps buying me wool blends (with like 10% wool) thinking that's ok : Anyhow, any bit of wool makes me break out in excema-like patches and hives. I cannot even wear/lay on wool with clothes as a barrier. This makes me sad, because I would love a wool rug. So, it could be the wool.

We got allergin/mite enclosed, zippered covers for the bed, boxspring, and pillows and it has helped a HUGE amount. They were $$, but so worth the money. Don't even bother with the cheapo ones except for on the boxspring where no one will touch them, they are loud and not comfortable to sleep on. I only wash the linens, in hot water with unscented detergent, once a week. Our allergist said only cotton on the bed & body, no poly blends or anything like that. I have seen a big improvement in all of us since we got the mite covers and got rid of a lot of the allergin trappers (like stuffed animals and clutter). HTH and good luck. Poor kid, i hope he feels better soon... it sucks to be so itchy.
