Tupler Technique Plus Kegels- Lose Your Mummy Tummy Tribe - Page 2

Wow, I didn't know that I have diastisis until reading this, and my babe is 27 months old now!

Thanks for this info.

Another good way to see if you have a diastasis is to get into the tub and lay down on your back. When I do this it's always really obvious because the muscles sort of float to the sides and the gully is visible.

Actually, I'm pretty sure the thin muscles in the middle tore when I was mos pregnant with dd2. I heard two pops, about 5 minutes apart, at the top of my tummy. I thought it was my water breaking but it wasn't. And now that's where my problem is--above my belly button. My lower belly is a little stretched out but doesn't pooch like the top part. This weird shape is making it very hard to find shirts that look right.

I'm so glad I found this! i've been so confused about this wierd trench in my gut, and i'm tired of looking 5 mos prego 8 mos after the fact - i've been doing crunches to try to tone my abs, and now i learn that makes it worse! any advice on dvd vs book?

I am going to look for the book. Is the DVD worth it?

I never knew what was wrong with my tummy but I have this huge gully.

I've just recently gotten the splint and the DVD. I like the splint; though I don't really have enough experience with it, it does seem like it might help me remember to hold my tummy in, which seems to be the basis of the whole program. The DVD is helpful for being able to visualize what she is talking about; some of the exercises are rather subtle, so it's nice to see what she's doing. It's a little pricey for for it is, however.

Thanks For Posting This!!!

Wow! I just started a week ago doing the belly-to-spine stuff (I try to do it ALL the time, in everything I do)
.

.

.

My diastasis recti has already gone from 3 inches across (above and below my navel) to only about 1 and 1/2 inches! I already look WAY better!

Why didn't anyone tell me about this before? I've been complaining about it to EVERYONE since I had a baby 2 1/2 YEARS AGO!!!???!!! Even to my physical therapist friend!!

So there's a splint that goes along with this? How, exactly, does that work?
I've been trying to do the belly breathing all the time also. Seems to be helping. My husband says it looks better, although he might just be trying to be encouranging...Anyway, it feels good to at least be doing the right exercises. Also been focusing on bending my knees to pick up my bebe, and on sitting up straight. I'm a terrible sloucher, though, and its hard to sit properly! Actually it kind of hurts my back...I suppose those muscles aren't accustomed to being used.

I'd be interested in learning about the splint, too, from anyone who's used it. I have another DVD and book, "Be Fit Mom" (Exercize after Pregnancy) and she talks about splinting the abdomen with an exercize band while doing some back exercizes, but nothing for just during the day or all the time.

Apparantly I need this thread I went for a run this morning and had a woman compliment my disipline for keeping my excercise up at this level when Im this far along. Im not pregnant:

I am looking at starting this too...

I am 14 months post partum after having our second baby and I definitely have the mummy tummy thing going on. It's noticable in my profile. I think I may go ahead and order the book. What is the DVD all about and anybody have more feedback on the spint? Thanks! Jill

I think next time I would order the DVD. I have been having a hard time remembering to do any of the exercises in the book, but I try to remember to follow her guidance on correct posture throughout the day (hard!) and remember to kind of suck my abs in, in the special Tupler-approved way (not like a crunch but bringing the right and left sides together and back towards the spine). This has resulted in, almost a year later, my diastisis lessening a good deal but it is not quite gone yet. I can't really complain though, I'm so bad about remembering to do anything about it. Next time I would get the splint, too.

I got the book from the library yesterday, but I couldn't find the DVD anywhere. It's not listed on Amazon from what I saw. Does anyone know where I could get a copy? I would really like to have a fit tummy and back before we TTC next year.

Since I have been working on my abs a bunch, I think it's probably good to have read this and to find out before I would make things look worse, if I do have diastasis.
I'm wondering the same thing. Like, is everyone able to feel something there? At what point is it a "problem".

Anyone?

About how much of a gully should be there, if any . . . I don't know. I know even one finger width is considered not optimal/healthy, but less than one finger width-- is that a problem? What does a normal abdomen feel like right there? I don't know! (I don't remember! )

Sorry I'm no help.

The diastisis in my abdomen is almost all healed now. It's been a year (and a couple weeks.) There's just a small gully right in the middle but the top and the bottom are all closed up. Kinda weird.

Subbing. I'm pretty close to my due date and I just got the book from the library. After dd was born I never lost my belly. I still looked about 5 months pregnant up until the time I got pregnant again. I have a HUGE diastasis. I just hope that these exercises work for me. I don't need a rock hard tummy, I just don't want to look pregnant when I'm not, kwim?

I am 15 months post-partum after baby #2 and all I want for Christmas is to get rid of my gut, so I am glad I checked in here! I am doing aerobics three times per week (Jazzercise so some strength training, too, I use 8 lb weights) and trying to control food portions and junk food (v. difficult as eating is something I do really well!

I think my gut has actually become larger since I stopped tandem nursing 3 months ago... DD is still going strong but it doesn't compare with nursing 2. I was so used to eating the extra calories that I didn't slow down appropriately, I think.

I just checked and my diastisis seems better than in the past (haven't checked in a long while.) If I really poke and prod I can still get at least one finger in just above my navel, but it feels less like a deep hole and more like a valley now, if that makes any sense.

My other problem is that I can't remember to hold in my abs during the day! I need to figure out how to remind myself more frequently.

Sorry, it's been a while since I checked this thread! The splint is a piece of stretchy fabric with velcro on the ends. You wrap it around your tummy fairly tightly and secure it in the back with the velcro. It is supposed to hold your stomach muscles together when you exercise, so that the diastastis doesn't get any bigger. Here's a picture: http://www.sobebabies.com/shop/lose-...05c0f1f375b1d2 I'm sure a scarf or something like it could be used just as well. HTH!

The two places I've seen the DVD are:

http://www.maternalfitness.com/shop/dvd_books.html

Also I have seen used DVDs come up on TBW occasionally.
