Working toward my dream...

Perhaps some of you remember that I was offered an apprenticeship on the condition that I get a car and a driver's license, two things I've managed to live without for 27 years.

Well, the apprenticeship starts in June, and I've got the car. Tomorrow I'm taking the driving test. : Would appreciate any prayers/well-wishes/positive energy you all can spare around 11AM PST tomorrow.

Many thanks.

Good for you. This will be a breeze.

That's great! I'm glad to see it's working out!

Best of luck on the driving test--I'm sure you'll pass with flying colors!

Wishing you luck...
As a non-driver myself, I know that if I am to pursue my dreams the way I want, I also have to take the dreaded test!! The thought of it makes my stomach hurt!

I am sure you will do great!

Thank you all!

Soybeansmama, it's been so much easier to do this knowing that it's getting me to midwifery. Nothing less could have made me do it, but I was motivated in a way I never was before. I have complete faith that when your time comes, you'll be able to do it, because you'll be ready, and it'll be for a purpose.

I'll keep y'all posted.

Oh man, good luck, I have to do the same thing this summer (in pursuit of midwifery as well)!

Thanks! I don't get to share much with people who get my woes about driving. I am 31 and have managed to "get by" but I know that my time is coming...

I DID IT!

I am now a licensed driver. :

I'm glad to see there are others who have waited until they really had a reason to learn, but believe me, if I can do it (and not flee in terror or fail miserably) you can too.

Thanks for the support.

I remember your earlier thread!

Congratulations!

Wait, maybe that's not an appropriate smiley for being a licensed driver. Let's try these:

I'm so glad you made this choice to persue your dream of being a midwife!

The first driving disaster

Just wanted to share that I went to chart review for the first time today at the birth center where I'll be apprenticing...and backing out of my parking space, I scraped the senior apprentice's bumper. : She was so gracious about it, but I felt like such a jerk. Hopefully I'm a better apprentice than a driver. :

It can happen to someone who's been driving for 20 years. Don't feel so bad about it. Congrats on getting your license!

I hope you see the humor in this! Being a new driver really has nothing to do with it, I am constantly doing stupid stuff or worried about it. I ran over the schools mailbox while the principal and janitor were watching. I have never lived that down!!!!!

When I am at clients houses, I am really paranoid about running over a kid or pet or something! And since I can be so scatterbrained, I make it a point to look like a million times before backing up (at home too, I make the kids stand where I can see them and physically hold onto the little ones). I'm sure my clients are looking out the window, thinking "go, already!"

keep us updated, I am excited for you! I wish I had the chance to work for a birth center, that's one of my dreams!

Thanks, ladies, I DEFINITELY see the humor, and it's good to hear that it happens to the best of us. In spite of this, I am getting more excited every day about the birth center work.

I learned to drive for this very reason too! My apprenticeship is going well, but the driving is still a lot to absorb for this once-dedicated pedestrian. Since August I've spent 600 hours in the car for my training. My shoes will last forever this way!

Just wanted to let you know that I was offered an apprenticeship last Sunday and I am in the same boat...I, too am working toward my dream with getting my license as a priortity on my list of things to accomplish. Thanks for your inspiration!
