Ok...DS is now a year old, he just got teeth about a month ago. The other day I posted that I thought his bottom teeth were rubbing my nipple but only on one side...well...it's his top teeth and now it's both sides. It hurts soooo bad. It's worse than it was when he was first born. I have got to do something about it, I see now why women say they stopped BF because of biting. He isn't biting but OMG it hurts so bad. Please help me. He nurses to sleep at night while I rock him. I nurse him at night a few times if he wakes up and it doesn't hurt as bad but he doesn't latch on very much, maybe 10 seconds. He very rarely will lay down beside me to go to sleep. What am I going to do, I am freaking out here. I want to BF him at least till 2 but this is so painful and he is VERY attatched to the breast. Help help help !!!!

I usually nurse him while I rock him, just in the cradle hold, the only time I nurse him laying down is at night. I have tried to do it during the day and he won't lay still long enough....lol. I tried taking him off and making him latch back on but it still hurts, it hurts even when he is wide awake and has a good latch.

Ok...I'm really not trying to be a jerk but I am really upset. I see it time and time again on here mama's judging other mothers for stopping breastfeeding because of biting or sore nipples. I have heard some of you say that's just an excuse to stop. Well guess what? It freakin hurts. I have tried to get help on here and only ONE sweet mama has tried to help me. My nipples have scabs on them and I cry when I nurse him. There are only so many positions to nurse in. I can nurse with him in my lap but he won't go to sleep that way. I DO NOT want stop, I LOVE to nurse him but I can't stand the pain. He can tell there is something wrong because when I flinch he stops and looks at me and he even cried tonight when I let out a yelp, therefore I sat and cried because I am terrified my nursing relationship is over. I don't know what to do. I put lanolin on my nipples but it hasn't helped much. I used to look forward to nursing him to sleep every night because lately that's the only time he is still and I can hold him, now I dread it. I have broke down the past two nights and given him a bottle in the middle of the night because my nipples hurt so bad. I will continue to do what I know how but I would greatly appreciate some advice on here. I am begging for help. Please, if you have ANY advice to give me, or even if you have been there and can talk me through this, I'm open. Will it get better? I don't see how because his teeth aren't going anywhere. Please help me if you can.

Ouch!
Okay- his bottom teeth shouldn't be getting you at all- his tongue should be over them. Watch his latch carefully and make him relatch whenever you can't see the tongue over the lip any more.
The top ones are trickier, because they're SOOO sharp when they first come in and they do often touch the nipple. Watch for him looking around or turning his head at all- that makes it MUCH worse. Watch to see if there is a specific time or position that makes it worse.

hang in there- they do get duller (or nipples get tougher) pretty soon.

I really wish I had some good advise for you??? The only thing I can recommend is you contact a IBCLC and discuss it with her. Oh,
to you during this difficult time. Soothies can really help heal scabby nipples, but don't use them at the same time as Lansinoh cause the Lansinoh will repell the soothies effects. I wonder if a nipple shield could help?

when did the pain start? Is it painful only when he latches on?
Maybe you are ovulating? I know that for some nursing is painful when they ovulate. If this is the case, it should get better in a couple of days.

Thanks girls...yes it is his top teeth and they are like razors. I actually started feeling the pain about two weeks before AF. Today I noticed my right breast is very tender, like the whole thing. I am worried I could be getting mastitis again because I have sort of stayed away from that one side because it hurts so bad. I will try the soothies and watch his teeth. His tongue does cover his bottom teeth but his top really hurt.

I'm no LC that's for sure, but could you try a nipple shield to let you heal? So many here are so against any kind of foreign things in a baby's mouth, but when you are in pain, you have to do what is best for you to get better so baby can be healthy too!
