Washington Post article

Quote:
"The administration wasn't matching its deeds to its words in the war on terrorism. They're making us less secure, not more secure," said Beers, who until now has remained largely silent about leaving his National Security Council job as special assistant to the president for combating terrorism. "As an insider, I saw the things that weren't being done. And the longer I sat and watched, the more concerned I became, until I got up and walked out."
Quote:
In a series of interviews, Beers, 60, critiqued Bush's war on terrorism. He is a man in transition, alternately reluctant about and empowered by his criticism of the government. After 35 years of issuing measured statements from inside intelligence circles, he speaks more like a public servant than a public figure. Much of what he knows is classified and cannot be discussed. Nevertheless, Beers will say that the administration is "underestimating the enemy." It has failed to address the root causes of terror, he said. "The difficult, long-term issues both at home and abroad have been avoided, neglected or shortchanged and generally underfunded."

Beers's resignation surprised Washington, but what he did next was even more astounding. Eight weeks after leaving the Bush White House, he volunteered as national security adviser for Sen. John F. Kerry (Mass.), a Democratic candidate for president, in a campaign to oust his former boss. All of which points to a question: What does this intelligence insider know?

hmmmmmmm

verrrrrrrrrrrry interesting

Wow! That is surprising!!!!!

but not in a bad way

Hmm...seems the 'bad way' is alive and well in this administration.

Coleen Rowley's two letters to Robert Mueller are supported again and again.

Beer's wife:

It's a very closed, small, controlled group. This is an administration that determines what it thinks and then sets about to prove it. There's almost a religious kind of certainty. There's no curiosity about opposing points of view. It's very scary. There's kind of a ghost agenda.
Her DH served three decades in Washington administrations. She's watched and listened and been privy to what most of us will never know directly.

The fact that she says this about the current WH Administration and implies a contrast to the administrations of Reagan, Bush I and Clinton is note-worthy to me.

Heh - I was gonna post that article, but got too lazy! It's a very interesting development.

I read this last night before going to bed and was just so, so, ummm - I can't think of the right word, but something like impressed - really awestruck? I mean - he is from the inside, saying the things we've all suspected on the outside and doing something about it - quiting AND becoming active . . . I worry though if there could be some backlash for him. I hope he doesn't fly in any small planes any time soon!!: I REALLY CAN'T understand how anyone can think this administration is anything other than a catastrophy!!

I am glad to see this article posted here. It DOES say something when an "insider" steps outside to do what is right. Mr. Kerry however, is still dubiously worthy of my time if he does not state his own outrage at being duped to vote in favor of the powers needed by Bush to wage this sham-war...has he come out yet to do that? Perhaps he has and I missed it.

Regardless...Mr. Beers is a hero. Unfortunately speaking out can be fatal and yes, I feel it is not below this administration to eliminate by any means, their opposition.

This administration is once more trying to blame the FBI and the CIA and the intel community for falling short about WMD's...we pretty much know better, don't we, by now? Isn't the MO of this administration to do what they please and blame those in the intel community for erroneous or incomplete intel?...and further, it makes me wonder about the reality around a similar pattern of blame being thrown about regarding intel shortcomings re: 9/11.

I think that the intel guys knew it was all bogus and just didn't have the info that would justify war and the administration then created the intel through questionable means. The retired intel guys warned about the bogus WMD's claims and reasons to go to war, as did Scott Ritter, from the beginning!

So what would you call this?...deceipt to commit premeditated murder of our troops and of the Iraqis...at the very least? What a long chain of sh*t this is.

Do Bush and Cheney, et al really think they can fool all of the people all of the time? Over confidence is a fatal flaw in thier thinking and their actions.

WE cannot allow our children to have to pay a high price for these clowns' greed and lust for power.

MoveOn.org has a petition to sign. Add your own personal message about your outrage at this whole WMD fiasco, and pass it on to your friends and those you know may be interested. You may think it won't make a difference, but it IS an outlet for your outrage.

"Congress must establish an independent,
bipartisan commission to investigate and
hold the President and his officials accountable
if they manipulated or fabricated intelligence
to justify taking the country to war."

http://www.moveon.org/distortion/

Hooray for brave people like Mr. Beers!!! May he live long and have a wonderful story for his grandchildren about how he helped us take back our country!!! A TRUE patriot, like all who protested the war.

Sick of lies; not sick of fighting back every way I can....Joyce in the mts.
