Last year, for my mom, I got an inexpensive picture frame (a double one for us, one side for each child), some nice paper and had my children make hand prints. I then labled each print with the name and age of the child. It looks really slick. I used pearly white paint on black paper with a pearl look frame.

It cost about $10-$12.

This isn't dirt cheap, but I was really excited about the idea...I put together an overnight bag for my MIL. She is a super busy woman who drops everything when one of her kids/grandkids needs her. As a result, she is often unprepared to spend the night. I bought an inexpensive bag and stocked it with a nightshirt, toothbrush, toothpaste, etc. It will help her be prepared and also let her know she is always welcome in our home I'll let you know what she thinks about it.

That is such a cute idea! DH still needs to get his mom something, but no way could we bring ourselves to let her think she's free to spend the night! :

OK, I'm back with more constructive advice: Etsy! If you go to http://www.etsy.com you can search for jewelry, and many of the sellers offer absolutely gorgeous earings or necklaces for not much money at all.

Last year, I got a coupon for a free Picture People print. They of course want you to buy more when you are in there, but you can say no and still get the free print.

So I took the kids in, got their photos done, picked out, printed it up and gave it to my Mom.

Cost? Our time (1.5 hours at most) plus 3.5 miles there and back in gas.

Here's their current coupon: http://www.picturepeople.com/whats_i...g.aspx?sm=10_1

Last year was rough, as I had a 12 mo old and a 10 day old, and a 6 yr old. I was recovering from a c/s and probably beginning my dive into postpartum depression.

One thing DH did for mothers day that means SO much to me is he took a poster board, and printed the "Footprints" poem in the center.

Then on the sides of the poem he put a cutout of "Adult size feet" then had each of the kids feet dipped in different colored paint, and placed right on top of the big foot. (So it was like 4 footprints in one)

Then at the top he had DS1 write "We're Following in Mama's Footsteps"

It was the absolute BEST present I have ever received, and still means very much to me. I am tearing up just thinking about it.

For my mom I made a "compilation" CD of some of the snapshots on the pc. Kids playing, sleeping, eating, fighting, etc. And put a cheesy song on the background to play while the slideshow is running. I already had the pics, blank CD, and the cheesy song.

We were planning to do the Picture People thing, too, but all the ones in the area closed down. I even checked the next state over just for kicks and those are gone, too :

Well since our DS is only 7 weeks old we're giving pics of him. Also, I took a 6" terra cotta pot and saucer and painted them. Put some putting soil in a baggie tied up with ribbon and a pack of seeds in the pots and put them saucer on the pot like a top. Then tie the whole thing up with some ribbon. I did 3 of these for under $10.

LeyllaThats such a sweet thing that your DH did for you! I bet its beautiful. I love the idea of the cd of pics too!

We're making garden stones with the kids' handprints. The kits are pretty cheap at the craft stores--especially if you can get the weekly coupon.

We made felted beads out of wool roving. My 5yo DS did all the felting and we strung it together to make pretty necklaces. It was inexpensive, a great art project and they are beautiful!

We're giving MIL a carton of cheap cigarrettes :

We don't really do gift exchanges for Mother's Day in my family, but we decided to give Mom and Grandma 8 X 10's of the kids' pictures I just took the other day.

I printed recent photos of my children onto cardstock - only in one corner (and at an angle for design element haha) & then traced their hands and had them color them, we put flowers on the fingertips and colored the hands as stems. Okay, that was the plan, but I ended up giving them more free reign because i'm not into set projects & everyone doing the same thing. They all came out awesome, I added the year & my oldest son wrote a message on the back of each, the little ones drew pictures/colored on the back of theirs. I wish I had my digital camera so I could share photos.

We used those self sealing laminating sheets. They can be hung up, used as 'placemats' whatever. They are really cute.

I plan on making one more set for ME !
