TTC after birth trauma?

Thread Starter
We are thinking of TTC at the end of this year but we went through a big trauma with our DS and I'm wondering if anyone else has experienced the same thing? My ds was born 11 wks early and was in NICU for 2 months. He wasn't able to breastfeed which was a massive let down for me. I expressed for 15 months as a consequence. We also had a lot of other traumas and moved internationally twice in 6 months with ds. He also contracted reflux.
DP is understandably nervous as he nearly lost both of us that night, I can't quite shake off the fear of what happened but I still want us to move on with our family.

Any thoughts/experiences would be appreciated.x

There's a great livejournal group called birthtrauma that you should check out. Have you and your husband done any counseling to process your experience? TTC will likely raise those fears and memories and it will be important for you to work through them. A good doula might also be able to refer you to area resources. You might look into ICAN as well (I don't know if you had a c/s but they might have resources for you for counseling or groups for birth trauma).

Best of luck to you.

I'm so sorry for everything you and DH went through. If you are open to counseling, that may be a great way to sort through all of this.

I think it shows a real drive and passion for building a family that you have both endured so much and yet would be willing to (potentially) face it all again for another child. That, in itself, is amazing and beautiful... no matter what you and your DP ultimately decide.

take care,
steph
