According to "Dateline" pagans are satanists.

Did anyone watch the episode of Dateline that discusses Laci Peterson and the theory that she was killed by a Satanic cult. The fact that she was killed near solstice is one consideration. The words "pagan" and "satanist" were used interchangeably.

I'm not a pagan, excatly (I'm a Catholic with pagan leanings) but hearing about this was very upsetting.

If anyone wants to email Dateline, the addy is dateline@nbc.com

Thank you for this information. I will email Dateline today. What a bunch of crap! But typical, sadly. Doing a disservice to both satanists and pagans, imo.

OT: I found this word in your post interesting - 'excatly'. One could kinda read into that:

Ex

Cat (Catholic)

Ly (last two letters of your username)

I'm not surprised in the least most people don't know squat about satanism let alone paganism. And the defense has been desperate to get the focus off of Scott Peterson and onto someone/somewhere else. Just because the Church of Satan is based in San Fransisco doesn't mean Satanists were involved in the murder.

I wish all the people coming up with these "murdered by a satanic cult" theories would back it up with convictions that proved these cults actually committed these murders.

oh, I just have to add, if people are so uneducated (and chose to be ignorant) that they dont' know satanism is actually a reaction to Christianity and that pagans don't include the concept of satan then I don't know what to do.

Stupid idiots, that choose to stay stupid idiots.

nak

I get so aggravated at getting called a satanist!!

When I protest, I hear: "If you're not for God (most often, the Christian God) then you're against him, and therefore worshipping Satan." Funny, though, how if I were a follower od a "real religion" (say, Hinduism) then I'm not a satanist . . .

Uggh.

excuse pls, nak.....

"near the Solstice"?: : : :

the solstice is this saturday, how is it that she was killed "near " that?
more like near May Day, you know, that holiday where we all go around strangling that poor May Pole :LOL ok maybe a bad joke, but wtf?, ya know?

I haven't come up against criticism for my chosen path as much as others, but this mainstream idea about what paganism is and even what satanism is really irks me. You'd think these reporters could actually DO research instead of just regurgitating overheard crap. Then again, it's not even the ppl reporting it that are responsible, it's the peons below them that do all of the footwork, the talking heads just read the script.:

I think they were talking about December 21--isn't that the winter solstice? Help me here, someone, is the shortest day of the year also called solstice or does it have another name?

LOL, Frogertgrl, I wonder if it was a typo or a Freudian slip?

Yes, of course, she was killed just before Xmas, Yule, winter solstice, call it what you will.

I've never been called a Satanist, luckily.

I am more disturbed that my MIL thinks Gandhi is burning in hell as we speak.
