It is approved for treatment in infants and adults, including breastfeeding relationships. Of course you will need concurrent treatment with thrush.

Having dealt with long term thrush, I can tell you it didn't do the trick for us. I didn't do the long term treatment as I wasn't comfortalbe with it. It might be helpful if you tell us exactly what you have tried, perhaps we have suggestions, if you are opposed to the meds.

I have had client use this while breastfeeding with mixed results. With some it helped clear it, and others it did nothing. I haven't personally seen any adverse results, but that doesn't mean they don't happen.

How long were your clients taking the diflucan? It needs to be taken for about 2 weeks for thrush, not a single dose as is adequate for vaginal infections.

I took diflucan while nursing an infant and a toddler when all 3 of us has thrush.

We use diflucan in preemies in our NICU, either IV or by mouth, depending on how they have been taking their meds. I think it's fairly safe when other approches such as nystatin do not work.

We both took Diflucan for 2 weeks when our trush didn't clear up with nystatin and grape seed extract. It cleared up and didn't come back. We did not have side effects. I did however take the Diflucan 12 hours before/after DD to minimize the risk of overdosing her and also right after nursing (it peaks in the milk at ~ 2 hours after taking it if I remember right).

I would like to clarify this -
when trying alternative treatments the suggestion is for GrapeFRUIT seed extract, not grape seed extract. That can make a world of difference. Perhaps it was a typo on PP's part, just want to be clear for others who may read this.

I got thrush for the first time when DD was oh.....12, 13 months old. I contacted my bfing doc (she is an FP and an IBCLC) and she prescribed diflucan for me. She told me it was safe (they give it to babies like a previous poster said) and it cleared up the thrush very quickly. I had friends who were given nystatin and it took forever for their thrush to clear.

A few doses of diflucan didn't do it for me, and I didn't want to do the whole two week course. The only thing that cleared up our thrush was lots and lots of acidopholis.

Yes sorry that was a typo.
