Shopping for frugal replacements??

post #1 of 4

I'm such a shopping addict.....even if it's just going to Target to buy toilet paper.....it's nutty!

Anyway....I really want to cut down on my Target runs (or at least the amount I spend there when I go).

What types of things can I get for my household that will replace some of my disposable products?

Are there things you've cut out that you realize were a waste of money? Thanks

We haven't made 100% switches yet, but some ideas off the top of my head:

Disposable diapers --> cloth diapers
Menstrual pads --> mama cloth
Paper towels --> cleaning rags
Paper napkins --> cloth napkins
Toilet paper --> cloth TP
Paper plates and cups, plastic utensils ---> regular plates, cups, and utensils
Ziploc bags --> Pyrex bowls with lids
Saran wrap --> foilers
Parchment paper --> silicone baking sheets
Cleaning products --> baking soda, vinegar, castile soap, homemade cleaners

Replacemtn for swiffer wipes - old socks and some elastic

Get a mop w/ a washable head, and wash it with the whites

Vaccuum bags - we always empty it once and reuse it, then trash it, but one could go bagless. (We are also not too concerned w/ allergens)

Jennisee gave you a pretty comprehensive list!

The other thing we've done is start to buy in bulk or at least buy more of an item at once to reduce trips. I'll buy two big bottles of vinegar at a time, for instance.

I find that the less often I'm in a store, the less likely I am to buy impulse items.
