For cleaning etc most things you would need you can find at any supermarket. Castile soap, baking soda, vinegar - these can all be used to make safe, effective, and inexpensive cleaning products. I have this woman's book for making "recipes" and have found it quite helpful - http://www.betterbasics.com/
You can buy premade products in many supermarkets such as Seventh Generation, Bio Kleen, and Ecover, but ime homemade works just as well but is less expensive (I do buy premade laundry and dish detergent by Bio Pac, but only because I can get in in bulk which makes it cheaper than making my own.)
For personal care products check out this guide - http://www.ewg.org/reports/skindeep/
This can tell you the relative safety of many products. Any healthfood store and many of the bigger chain supermarkets carry some of these brands, and of course there are lots of places online.
Another fun site to look at home goods is http://www.gaiam.com/
