So the sitation I am in is not ok and I am moving across country to live near family till Hubby gets home from Iraq next spring. For the life of me I can not seem to find info on home births with a midwife near Middleboro MA. The Yellow pages and google are not helping.

I am scared I will end up in a hospital!

Anyone have any ideas?

Did I mention I am moving across the country with two kids, homeschooling, pregnant, and freaked!

Wow is this a lot. I need a midwife... homeschooling laws in MA are hard enough to swallow. No hospital... please please please.

Have you tried looking on the Finding Your Tribe forum and posting that very question in the thread for MA?

Good luck!

Thank You! I posted there and I hope will find something soon so my panic can go back down a little. LOL

Not sure how soon I am moving.... ASAP if possible.

That sounds like a good move Kontessa. You sound like you've had a really rough time lately. I think if I could move I would. I'm sure the Finding your tribe people will help you out. If not, ask around when you get there. Also, under the homebirth forum, there is a sticky with how to find a midwife. You can visit the sites. I found one of them (there were 3 and I don't remember which one it was), you could request a list of midwives from that state or another if you live close to another. It took them a week or two to get back to me, but I did get lists for all 3 states I requested. Didn't really come up with anyone I would want to use, but it's worth looking into. I think it gives you all ranges of midwives (from homebirth to hospital.) Good luck with the move!

can't help much, but also wanted to say good luck!

I don't have any further suggestions, but I do want to wish you luck in finding a midwife. Oh, I just thought of something. You could try going to meetup.com and looking at some mom clubs in the area you are moving too and ask them if they can recommend a midwife. I hope you find one soon and good luck on your move!

Kontessa,

You're moving an hour and 45 minutes from me!!!!! :

Most of the hb mws around here travel...

My mw has a friend in MASS...I'll e-mail her today and see if I can get contact info!

Okay...I don't mean to be pushy or anything...but, we HAVE to meet sometime!
Hey, I'm not too far from there!! Maybe 45 min or so...Im closer to Boston, just south actually. We should def plan some sort of meetup for the locals!!

If I was able to hb, Paige Eastman would be #1 on my list. I've talked with her a few times (she's also on mdc- paige, cpm). She's kind of down your way (Cape, I believe). I really wish I was more comfortable with hb in my situation. Paige really seems to get it, and in my situation was very supportive that a hospital can be an ok place (it was perfect for ds...natural, supportive mw, my wishes followed). I know a mama IRL who used Paige, and loved her. Def give her a call; tell her I sent you! There are many others...but, she was the only one who didn't judge me for making the decison to not take my chances and hb.

There are several homeschooling groups local to there, I know a few mama's who are active in a bridgewater group. Let me see what info I can dig up for you about that.

I have the directory of birthing resources from the ma friends of midwives, would you like me to send you a copy? PM me if so..

Let me know if you need more info!

MDC mamas in the area? I am not going to be as alone as I feared! I am so thrilled! Almost all of my local friend here and everyone I know there are so mainstream and they do not even bother thinking out of the box. It would be nice to have friends who get that I think and make choices even if they are not the social norm!

It is looking like it will cost me 4.5k to get a pod and move there. WOW. U-haul would be about 3k but I would some how have to get my daughter there as she would not fit in the moving truck! So pods is looking like my best bet. Now this is all waiting on my little sister and her love buying a house SOON. Or maybe I can rent a furnished appartment there and just store my stuff here.... Home birth in an appartment though? Poor neighbors! LOL

If anyone has more ideas on this move I could use them right about now.

Blessings,
Kimmy

P.S. A meet up sounds wonderful!

Wow, that's expensive. I can tell you from experience that furnished apartments are very pricey! However, I definitely think you can homebirth in an apartment. Lots of people on MDC have done it. I live in a quadplex, so if I choose to homebirth, they might hear me, but it's not as bad as an apartment.

Kontessa,

How are you doing, Mama? Haven't heard from you in awhile.

Could a home exchange be an option for you? Or, instead of searching for a furnished apartment, try looking for a sublet. They tend to be more furnished and not as expensive. Furnished places target the executive crowd who can pay a lot. There's got to be a way to move for less than 4K! : Do consider the minimalist route... It's amazing how much of our daily stuff we don't truly need, kwim?

I have a midwife rec; I'll pm you!

Good luck with all this and take care!! Let us know what we can do to help.

What about this? http://www.upack.com/

One of my friends and her dh did this when they moved back to California and she said it was worth it. You pack and they drive the truck, kind of a middle ground.

Will you be able to get help packing etc? We just moved and it is a lot of work, esp. when pg so I know what you'll be going through! : Please let us know if you're needing more support...

Good luck! :-)

BTW - I've had three homebirths in apartments; noone heard any of my growling, moaning or screaming!

Thanks for thinking of me. I am very stressed and sick right now.

I have honestly given up so much of my house hold items that I do not think I could spare any more at this point. I did look up Upack and Pods and still about 3k-4k in price. Being near family though and support is sounding very worth it. At this point, I am just waiting on the money. Little sis is looking into renting a place for us and we will share the rent. She is looking for peace as much as I am. I just hope it all works out.

So very much to think about...... Happy I have friends here and I am not alone.

Thank you again!

Hi, Kontessa! So glad to hear from you!!

Hey...could you and dh take out an interest-free hardship loan against dh's hazard pay? Do you guys have a persu? I'm not sure what branch your dh is...

Argh!! We used this company (upack.com) when we moved our stuff from Boston (funny enough!) to Seattle... We had moved there (Boston) after we got married, but decided to move everything back about a year and a half later... Anyway, we used this company upon the recommendation of some good friends of ours... They had a fine experience with them (good enough to recommend the company--it is definitely a good deal $-wise); we had a HOOOOORRRRRRIBBLE experience with them! It took SIX weeks for our stuff to travel from Boston to Seattle. We were sooooo upset! We were sleeping on an air mattress during that time and our backs were killing us! I have blocked out most of the details of our battle, but I do remember that our stuff sat in someplace like Denver or Las Vegas (somewhere that is very out of the way--but they were waiting for more cargo to make the trip "worth their while") for about four of those weeks. We had a lawyer involved; oh, it was such a frustrating mess!

It is really too bad, though, because the idea behind the company is such a good one! We did a search for the company and complaints filed (while we were waiting for our stuff) and found tons and tons...should have done that first, I suppose!! Anyway, there's my .02.
