MWs accepting Medicaid?

Are there MWs who accept Medicaid? I have a friend in Lubbock, TX, who really needs some options. She's 32 weeks, afraid no one else will take her, but her OB is causing her major stress. When she tries to refuse things, they get nasty. She said she's tried the nodding sweetly and then not showing up thing. But that turns ugly, too. They've coerced her in this manner to do the GTT and want to do 6 u/s (because her first was after 24 weeks?! - by half a week, too). She's also a VBAC and I get the distinct impression that they're not super supportive of that.

Anyway, I'm just looking for options and hoping maybe someone knows of someone - either MW or *good* OB - in the Lubbock area who could help! The big kicker is they need to use Medicaid.

Thanks!

CPMs can't accept medicaid in Texas, but if she wants a birth with a CPM and there's one in the Lubbock area (which I'm not sure if there is....you can look at www.texasmidwives.com), most midwives offer a medicaid discount and will make payment arrangements with medicaid clients that are more generous. She should look into the option. The birth you want is worth any monetary price!!

I know of no ob's around here besides the one I mentioned before but I am almost positive MWs are no where around here. I ended up getting a mw in Midland, 2 hours away. They really work with you on price if you have medicaid. I am not sure if she would want a big drive though. The options around here seem to be few and far between.

Even if she can not get a midwife, she should at least think about changing care providers. Women ALWAYS have a choice. It is up to them if they will take it though.

There are no mws in Lubbock, but there is a mw in Amarillo who is worth talking to about working about a payment plan, bartering, etc. Her name is Leah Hernandez. PM me for her info.

Thank you, ladies! I really appreciate the input. It seems as though she's been working exclusively with the OB nurses who have been a REAL pain. They finally met with the OB himself who was maybe not perfect but a LOT better. They've made minor concessions on things like the glucose testing that seem reasonable at this point. She also has another OB at another hospital (not the one she wants to deliver at) lined up to take her if necessary, but she's also not completely sure what would be involved in the care over there. At least now, though, she doesn't feel totally stuck!

I have mentioned the MW in Amarillo to her several times with no reaction, so I'm pretty sure at this point she does NOT want to go the homebirth route. Did I mention that her first birth was a planned homebirth and the MW (in a different town) turned out to be just horrible and paid her no attention when she had a uterine infection?! I'm so sad for her that her first experience was so horrible that she won't consider it again, even though she was set on it the first time.
