just curious if anyone ec's(elimination communication), or is planning to. we started late with gabriel(10 months), but started with beth from the beginning. it was a wonderful journey, and i can't imagine not doing it again.

any one have any stories to share?

I've never tried ec...mostly because I've had such a difficult time postpartum. But, I'd love to learn more! A few of my friends practice it.

I hadn't heard of it until DS was already 18 month. Thinking of trying it this time around though.

It wasn't something I'd heard of until my last was already over that stage. But no, I honestly don't think it's something I am interested in.

Besides it never sounding too appealing to me, perhaps I am just selfish and/or it's a time and aggravation factor, but with four kids and everything else I have to do in a day, I don't think it's in the cards!

We do a good bit of signing with Isaac and b/c of that started doing EC. By the time he was about seven-eight months he was telling us (signing) when he was pooping/about to poop/had to poop. By 12 months we were getting most of the #2 in the toilet. Now (18 months) it's all in the toilet.

Shortly after 12 months he was giving us the toilet sign for #1 or #2. With #1, he would often sign to us he had to go, but it turned out he was telling us as he was going (in his diaper).

Now he is often dry when I try to change his diaper so I offer him the toilet and he always goes willingly. When he poops on the toilet, we read books, so he doesn't get too bored sitting there. We usually go through two board books!

I can't remember the last time I changed a poopy diaper, although he's had an occasional one for my MIL who watches him sometimes. I think she isn't that tuned in...besides the fact that she made a comment that we were going to "scar him" [emotionally] by "making" him poop on the toilet at "such a young age". : Whatever.

It's been fun and really neat to do EC, although I am hardly hardcore about it! I'll definitely do it again, at least like I did it with Isaac, but maybe be more serious about it. We'll see how it goes postpartum...

I'm happy with his toilet habits and hope I haven't "scarred him for life"!

i think we started dd ec late, we did not know about it till she was almost a year, but she took right to it, i could just TELL when she had to go after we had been trying to take notice for a week or so...she was completely diaper free by 18 ish months...

with this baby i am really going to take it as it comes, i loved cloth diapering dd but i also loved ecing her...i am going to really just see how we are all feeling as it happens, with no expectations

That is great! I would love not to be rinsing poops out of cloth diapers anymore....especially now being pregnant, I gag and gag and gag... I will have to look up that sign!

I cloth diapered my first, EC'ed my second from 8 months and he was potty trained completely by 19 months, my third (16 mo) has a major potty fear and I cannot get her anywhere near one. I've tried! It totally freaks her out to sit on the bjorn potty, much less me hold her over the grown up one.

So, I will hope that I can EC this one, but will take his/her lead!
