Reputable internet check re-order site??

So, I've been check-free for a while now, but I need at least one "real" check soon to set up direct deposit when I start my new job in a week(ish). But my bank wants to charge me $19 for a box of 50 plain-jane checks!! Uh, yeah right!! I know there are some sites on the internet where I could re-order checks for far less, but I worry about the safety of doing so. It's not frugal if my bank account gets cleaned out by a scam artist.

Can anyone reccommend a secure, inexpensive site to re-order checks online?

go to the bank and get your Account and "Routing" number

the only reason they need a check for direct deposit is to get that information.

or if you have a major bank...
https://www.wellsfargo.com/help/routing_number/

Personally I will never ever ever have checks again and I would do anything to avoid getting them.

I know the account number and the routing number, but everywhere I've worked has always asked for a voided check as well. I might see if I can get away with not having a check to set it up, but I'd rather pay the few bucks to avoid the hassle of not setting up direct deposit when I start. I wish I could just print out a check from the bank website or something, though!

You can go to your bank and have them make you a "counter" check. It has the routing # on it and they will incode the magnetic strip with your account # on the check and you can use that. It should be free but some places charge 10 cents for them. The bank that I worked at last year had 3 for free or 10 for $1.

I think more and more places are willing to set up direct deposit without a check, so it actually may end up being more of a hassle to order checks than to wait and see.

If you do want to order them, though, the last time I ordered checks, I did it through an online company and was very happy with the quality of checks and the service--cheap and quick. I'm at work and don't remember the name of the company, but I would definitely recommend them. If you'd like the name, pm me (because I'll forget to check when I get home otherwise).

Thanks all... I think I will try to wait and see if I can get away with setting up direct deposit without a voided check. If I do need one, I'll try the counter check idea. If my bank doesn't do that, I'll probably just end up re-ordering in-branch and see if they have any less expensive options.

Id you do end up deciding to order checks, we always use this site: http://www.checksunlimited.com/Introoffer.aspx I've been ordering from them for 8 years now and have never had a problem.

I know walmart is the devil but we order our checks on their website, they are very affordable and we've never had a problem.

We always use them: Message !Products

I get a box of checks for $15, AND I am supporting my choice of non-profits!

I know it isn't the cheapest, but I think it is reasonable (cheaper than the banks), there are some beautiful prints, and a portion goes to the various nonprofits.
