Stupid question - sex and dilation?

OK - this is probably a really dumb question. Can you have sex if you are dilated. I mean, I'm barely dilated - 1 cm. My cervix is supposedly very soft. Water hasn't broken, etc. So, is it okay to dtd? I just wasn't sure about germs or whatever.

Apparently sperm has antibacterial qualities anyways.

Heck yeah. Even gives the cervix a bit more surface area to marinate in the prostiglandiny goodness of the semen!

Not a dumb question at all. I'm glad you asked, I've been wondering about this too. With dd I was single the last few months so I wasn't having sex. With this baby I have been having it up to four and five times a day this last week to try and move things a long (my husband works 6.5 hours away from home for two weeks straight every month and it's really important to us that he doesn't miss the birth)

I've probably read a 100 books on labor and I'm not sure anything ever specifically says its ok. It seems to feel like I am about a fingertip dialated, I assumed it was ok but I have wanted to ask someone.

I was thinking about this too. I'm 2-3cm dilated right now and I wanted to dtd before this kid comes out... but do you think things feel different? (for the guy I mean)... I don't want to feel like things are looser then they really are.

Isn't different what guys thrive on?
In my idiot's guide to amazing sex it says to gain or loose 5-10 lb because it can make the vagina feel different to the man and therefore make things a bit more exciting.
I'd think the extra vaso-congestion that's going on right now makes things feel squshy-tight and soft more than "loose" anyway. I'll have to ask Dh. I've been all over him lately (also at 2-3cm).

Ditto what the pps all said...remember, lots of us don't know how far dilated we are...and if you read about orgasmic births, often the parents are dtd during labor (when definitely more dilated than 1 cm!).
My dh doesn't think anything is that different...or if it is, it's in a good way because of all the extra engorgement. I doubt your dp will mind
Have fun...
