Anyone want to join me in eating better?

Now that we're approaching our 2nd tri most of us fortunates should be feeling better. I'm just 13 weeks and besides feeling ill a little bit at night, I'm mostly all better. I actually find I feel sick most of the time because I haven't eaten.
So I'm on day 4 of no sugar and have gone on 3 walks already this week. I'm really trying to keep the yeast at bay this time. So anything preventative I'm going to do.
I really need to start eating more veggies, but they still kind of gross me out. I find I really enjoy them in pureed soups right now, so making lots of those. And I need to remember to take my pre-natal every night, too.
Anyone else need to focus on eating better, or are you all saints ?

I would love to join you in a another week or two. I'm not quite 12 weeks yet and nothing sounds good to me except not so healthy comfort food. I havent been to the gym either in weeks. I plan on making a come back int he second trimester.

I definitely want to try.

Can you tell me how you make pureed veggie soups? That sounds pretty good...maybe with a peice of crusty bread or something.

Dh made soup for me last week with garlic, lots of leafy greens and zuchinni. Neither of us thought I would like it but it was so good.
I also made a asparagus and rice soup that was yummy (and the only way I can eat my beloved asparagus right now).
Also made black bean soup, I know it's not veggie, but it was yummy. Told you I'm eating a lot of soup lately.
Let me know if you'd like any of the recipes. I'll try to get them up if you would.

I'd love the asparagus recipe. Sounds great.

Here ya go.
Makes 8 servings.
Cook 1 c brown rice in 3 c salted water about 45 minutes, covered, until water is absorbed and rice is cooked.
Trim asparagus and steam 2 minutes. Cool and cut into 1-inch pieces.
Cook 2 celery stalks, 1/2 a chopped onion, 1 choped carrot, and 1/2 t dried thyme in olive oil about 5 minutes. Add 6 c veg stock and cooked rice and bring to a boil. Cover and simmer 10 minutes.
Blend in batches until smooth. Return to pot and add asparagus, chopped parsley, and 1 T soy sauce. Heat through and eat.

I need to join you! I still only want junk food and japanese food. Let's hear it for veggies!

Count me in! I haven't been doing too terribly bad but I am having a hard time finding good protein sources. We used to eat chicken a lot but the thought of it now makes me ill. I don't want to eat very much red meat and I'm not big on tofu. I'm thinking maybe fish is my best bet.

I had a big GBS count last time. Last night, my midwife said she had just read a paper showing that a good diet early on that promotes healthy flora may help really lower the count or get rid of it. So I will also try and eat more yogurt and hunt down some probiotics.

Count me in too! I have been walking and/or riding our exercise bike for at least 20 minutes a day (20 min on the bike and 30-45 min for a walk). Now the eating has to follow... I came to the conclusion earlier this week that I Have not been getting enough veggies, so I have been eating at least 2-3 servings at dinner (usually 3) and having some fruit at both breakfast and lunch. I need to focus on getting more protein.

i'll join you, as best as i can for now, with all the nausea i feel that my actual diet.. breakfast/lunch/supper is good.. snacks and physical activity are my downfalls! i can't wait to have just a bit more energy back, so that i can go for more long walks. i did that alot with my other two pregnancies, and i think it helped alot with the swelling/circulation!

I've been doing a bit better this past week as most of my ms and some of my food aversions have finally subsided. I'm finally able to eat some chicken and eggs for protein. I eat lots of apples and bananas and other fruits when they are in season. I've been trying to dip my apples in yogurt, since I can't have dairy other than yogurt. Yogurt has had no appeal to me this pregnancy (normally enjoy it.) I definitely could use more veggies.

Exercise is hard though. I went on a 3 mile power walk with my friends last night and my hip just can't handle it. I'm going to try to do it 2-3 times per week, but I think that's my max. We do walk everywhere here though normally. We live 2 blocks from the commissary (our grocery store) and about 4 blocks from the ACS building (where playgroup and various other activities are held) and we always walk to those places several times a week. I'd like to be able to run, but I'm afraid that would increase my heartrate too much.

My downfall is Nutella, at least lately. But I don't feel too bad about it. I need to avoid too much sugar like Isosmom, but I tend to have low blood sugar, so if I don't have any during the day, I get really lightheaded. I have had terrible thrush while nursing both times, I'd like to avoid it this time (and need to test (-) on the GBS test to avoid antibiotics). I've been taking probiotics daily to mostly help with my acid reflux, but it should help me test negative too.

i'm still sicky sick, but because it's felt so extended for me (i'm now pushing 7 weeks 3 days of 24-7 sickness) i've made an effort in the last week to eat a LITTLE better. veggies are still really hard, but i've been eating more fruit.

relief can't come soon enough. i am a ridiculously healthy eater normally, so not being able to eat as well has been sort of stressful for me. i normally cook a lot too, and i really, really miss it, though i still try to once in a while. i also have a food blog, so as soon as i'm on the mend i can share lots of recipes.

I can't wait for those receipes! I have been eating a lot of string chesse and sliced apples lately. I am having hard time eating anything.

I will join in as soon as the hyperemesis goes away! I have been eating whatever stays down. Last nights dinner was instant mashed potatoes. Breakfast today was plain Eggo waffles. I really need to eat better!

Im down!! Few more weeks and I will start my walks. Its been 100+ degrees out so Ive been slacking it. But hopefully once I get past 13 weeks Ill start to feel more energetic! I'm pretty good about taking my prenatals, and getting better about water. OK need to remember to do more KEGALS! LOL

I'm in. DH brought me gelato today at work and that was the last straw . I MUST start eating better because I tend to put on a lot of weight with my pregnancies even when I try hard to be good about my food...

So I skipped out on my walk this morning. I thought I'd walk dd to pre-school, but she woke up late, so not today. But I have been off the sugar for 5 whole days. It's crazy how hard it is at first, and then I stop even thinking about it. Last night for dinner I made pesto pasta with white beans and sauteed chard. Tonight I'm making shepard's pie (veg) with a curried lentil and veg filling. Hope I like it. I'm so glad I'm not alone in the crap eating cycle.

Joining!

I'm finally hungry all the time but I never know what to eat. For ome reason, about an hour before dinnertime every night I draw a complete blank and have no idea what to make. I have to eat things that my DD can eat that won't take hours to clean up (cutting out most soups and rice dishes). I am getting really sick of pasta too . My biggest thing is getting enough protein since I'm veggie.

I am doing better on exercising though. I've finally accepted that I need to just put DD in the stroller if I want to actually exercise walk and not just dawdle along looking at every plant and end up carrying her most of the time.

me! Now that I'm feeling better and not throwing up so muh I've GOT to do something to keep the weight gain down LOL. I somehow managed to gain 20 pounds in the 2 months before I got pregnant so I want to be sure and eat healthy this pregnancy so I don't pile on 40 pounds. I got TONS of veggies the last trip to the grocery store.

I've gotta rejoin my own group! I was doing so well and then I ate sugar for mother's day and it's been downhill since then. I've still been walking though. So here's to eating better.
