Anyone want to join me in eating better? - Page 2

how are we all doing with this now that we're firmly in our second tri?

i'm doing really well, actually, although i get bad food ennui where i'm ravenous but can't think of what else i want to eat. i'm not used to eating so much! baby's making me crave lots and lots of fruit, salads, and hummus sandwiches with lots of veggies. basically lots of fresh, cool stuff.

someone asked for my foodblog on this thread, and i finally started posting on it again, so here it is. i just moved addresses last week so i'm still in the process of moving over the archive, but there's a good deal of stuff there thus far. let me know if you try any ideas! i had a bunch of readers and commenters at my old address (45+ subscribed at its peak) but now i'm starting from scratch (no pun intended). it's ok, though. really i'm just recording this stuff so that i don't have a billion unorganized scraps of paper.

note the first recipe on there i made before i learned that fresh mozzarella was questionable! : hahaha. it's the packaged kind, not the stuff stored in water though so i'm not too worried.

OK, my exercise is just not happening these days. But I am eating better. Focusing on getting in all my fruits and veggies, no more white flour, cut down on the sugar...

I bought this V-8 Fusion the other day. An 8 oz glass provides a serving of fruits AND a serving of vegetables. The one I got- tropical orange or something- was really strong so I dilute it with water. It is yummy- maybe it could be like a spritzer if you used carbonated water.

I got that stuff a few weeks ago and didn't like it that well. It was way too strong. My kids enjoyed it water downed. For me, it was also too acidic and brought up acid reflux issues.

OK, I've got to get on track here. I've got to get out and excersise this week, I only got 1 walk in last week. And I'm doing much better with the eating, but still not good imo. So, more salads, more veg, less sugar and breads.

I have a terrible diet to be totally honest and I wish I knew ways to make it better. Essentially, the onlyu veggies I eat are like salads, corn, potatoes, lima beans.....I need help in this area so much. Its why my nursing relationships suffer and I refuse to allow it to this time. Any recipes for REALLY picky eaters?

robina_josephine, excellent blog! Thanks for posting the link...I'll probably be browsing it all morning.
I've made a new commitment to eating better and exercising since I came home from vacation a couple weeks ago. I've been eating lots of fresh veggies and fruits and eating a hard boiled egg in the mornings, which I think is making me feel better.
Does anyone else do any weight training? I've always done squats and lunges but I'm thinking of doing some light upper body work with weights to get ready for that newborn nursing hold (okay, and to be show off nice toned arms!).

thanks!

i cut out weight training when i got pregnant, only because i didn't really know which of my normal routine was appropriate. i still do cardio and prenatal yoga once a week (wish i could afford to do it more!). i kind of want to go back and do my upper-body workout though, i worry my arms are getting flabby.

I broke my collarbone at roller derby back in dec and haven't been able to regain the strength in my right arm since. I also grew a little "chicken wing" that I'm not too fond of! I think I'll go to the YMCA today and add in some biceps/triceps/shoulders to my cardio routine. I'm curious about the classes but I'm afraid to get in there and find out the exercises are way too advanced for my preggo self. This is the most difficult part of pregnancy for me, just not being able to what I want physically.

i go to a y, too, and mine is excellent. the prenatal yoga class they offer is top-notch. they also offer a "prenatal fit" one, which i haven't gone too -- do they have either of these at yours?

You broke your collarbone at a roller derby because you participate in a rollar derby? Do you skate? Thats the bomb if you do ! I love it!

Don't get too excited, i didn't even get to try out for a team! I broke my collar bone at one of the practices about 3 weeks before try-outs. I was pissed! My ortho surgeon said it could be that my bones were more susceptible since I'm breastfeeding. Anyone else ever heard of that?
DH has made me promise not to skate for a while after this babe is born (bless his heart, he had to help me lift my 4 month old to my breast for a couple of weeks and I couldn't even carry him), so I'm going to have to try to find a non-contact sport to get my aggression out.

Robina J, my Y doesn't have any prenatal classes. Isn't that odd? I'm thinking of doing a yoga class and just not doing any twists. What do you think about the water aerobics classes? those would probably be gentle enough, huh?

what a bummer!. water aerobics is a great idea, though! just don't forget to breathe!! i took a water aerobics class in college and it was FULL of elderly women, but my friend and i had a blast -- and it's a good workout.

yeah, try a yoga class and just let the teacher know in advance. they'll probably tell you not to do any inversions once you're over, i think it's 25 weeks? not sure on that. we do some very gentle twists in my prenate class.

De-lovely, you should totally skate once this babe is here! You'll love it. (er, just watch out for other people's skates). I'm enjoying your blog, BTW

RJ, if I ever actually make it to a yoga class, I'll let the instructor know I'm baking a bun. I've been doing a prenatal yoga video at home and like it okay, but just can't seem to get through the entire hour. So boring after awhile! Will a real live yoga class be a little more interesting???

As for the topic at hand...I had a hummus and cucumber sandwich on a whole wheat tortilla, a spinach and tomato salad, and some blueberries for lunch. Yum! Unfortunately, I forgot about the tahini and fed some to my 10 month old, and now he has a little rash around his mouth. Yikes, his first reaction to food!

I'm sure in for this! Heat just kills my appetite, and I really need to be eating more than I have been.

I find I'm good for dinner, since I do a kind of loose meal planning for that, and breakfast I'm fine, but snacks and lunch just stink. I forget to snack half the time, then think of it 20 minutes before a meal when it's really too late.

I'm also feeling kinda bad, I haven't been paying attention to protein at all. Guess since it's what this baby likes best, and I ate so much meat during the first trimester that now that I'm less picky I have just forgotten to pay attention.

What do you guys do for late night eating? I find I'm always hungry late at night and am tired of pj&js and its to easy to grab dessert foods.
