We did get a heartbeat!

Meant to tell you all, that we did get a heartbeat at our meeting with our midwife on Tuesday. It was 144, nice and strong, but baby was moving around so we only heard it briefly. The MW assured DH that there was only one babe (which I knew, but he worries).

And I finally got a date for my 'early dating' ultrasound - May 30th. By then I'll be about 16 1/2 weeks along I think, so it's not really 'early' according to me, but I guess it'll have to do. I do need some sort of date if we are, by some sort of miracle, going to pull off a homebirth, since they can't do one before 37 weeks, or after 42 1/2.

Yay! Doesn't it make it seem much more real?!
So glad to hear it went well.

oh that's so exciting...I couldn't hear mine at the 11 week appointment, so I am extra antsy for the next one. My doctor said that definitely after 12 weeks I could hear it, and I was satisfied after SEEING it on ultrasound. I have to remember, "one surprise at a time."

Congratulations!

Congratulations! It really sets your mind at ease, doesn't it?

Congrats! I heard mine today too! She didn't tell me how fast it was though, just said it sounded really really good. It does settle you down, right? I was so relieved.

That has to be the world's best sound, huh? Does anybody else know the heartrates? Mine seem to be really high (one at 167, one at 178) and my mom keeps telling me that old wives tale about babies with fast heartbeats are always girls. I'll be curious to find out if there's any truth to it.

We haven't heard a heartbeat here yet.

My three boys' HBs were almost always under 150s (130s to 140s) when checked and girls are supposed to be higher.

That is wonderful! Our little one's HR has been in the 160's each time we hear it so it makes me lean even more towards a girl

The hb was slower than I expected...not that I've heard a lot of fetal hb's Maybe I'm having a boy after all! Hmm... wondering if I should call doc and ask what it is... anyone know if that wive's tale is true? My chiro's secretary said it was true for both her kids (boy and girl)

Congrats!

Yay! for hearing the heartbeat! I hope to hear our baby's on June 1.

Remember, Mamas...if it's TRUE, it's an old WIVES' tale...if it's FALSE, it's an old HUSBANDS' tale!

hooray!

oh, re: heartrates, the first time ours was 178 (!!) but that was at 9w, so usually heartrates are pretty fast then, and then our m/w didn't tell us the rate at 11w. it really does sound like a galloping horse though, so cute!
