Is anyone else high-risk?

Just curious... I know there is at least a few of us here. I just have some questions (the pregnancy after loss board is very slow):

When I went in for my first appointment they told me my first ultrasound would be at 20 weeks. WHAT? Then I told them I am high risk so the nurse told a little lie to get me in at 10weeks. Do you know how often you will be going in?

Do you think we could have a support thread? I don't want to freak anyone else out on the board but I could sure use some sort of support system going through a high-risk pregnancy.

I am hi risk but just by virtue of age (42) my guy did a US at 5 wks BC I was bleeding, he was going to do one at 8 wks to check since risk being hi.. then 1st tri screening (at 13 or 14 wks) then a 20 weeker and then he says weekly starting at 32 wks.. I am refusing anymore unless I have a "problem" or suspect an "issue" but that is just me.. I hate US and have had three already.. hopefully I won't have anymore.. I thibk it depends on the OB.. many hugs

I am because of hypertension. The last time I had a few "extra" ultrasounds, but not until the end when it became pretty clear I was going to have to deliver early. I would expect the same may happen this time.

I am, for carrying multiples, which obviously means I could deliver early. So far I've had two u/s and I have a level 2 ultrasound scheduled for 2 weeks after my next OB appt (18 weeks, I believe). The first u/s was diagnostic, the second was to get the heartrates (it was really quick too, less than 2 minutes). I think that I have one at the next OB visit, the 18 weeks one at the specialist and then that's it until about 28 weeks when they'll do them more frequently to check on the babies growth rates and the placentas.

I believe I would be if I were going to an OB, but so far my midwives aren't treating me as such.

I had Toxemia with my two oldest, and hypertension with the last. My BP was already showing some early rising this time but I am hoping that's because I am so sick. My weight would also probably be a factor for an OB whereas it isn't with my midwives.

Chrysta, is your BP up at all already?

I've had such a bad feeling this whole pregnancy and I wonder what's up. I wonder if there's something coming or if I am just being silly.

High risk pregnancies

Yup, I was from first preggo (though didn't know it at the time) to very last!

#1: 29 week premature baby

Found out I had a bicorneated uterus (responsive btw) and incompetant cervix

#2: Was almost born at 24 weeks due to above medical problems

#3: Total bed rest for third because of medical problems and he had a double knot in his umbilical cord at birth

#4: Footling breech (she was situated in the left responsive chamber of my bicorneated uterus thus the breech baby while my others were all head down in the right responsive chamber of my uterus) with prolapsed cord and uterine rupture. She was a c\s

#5: scheduled c\s for 37 weeks however he was an emergency c\s at 33 weeks when my water broke. I had my tubes cut, burned and tied due to the previous history of uterine rupture and health risks associated with my other reproductive conditions.

I definitely know what it is like to be high risk for sure!!

Gina, my BP has really been behaving so far...much lower than it usually is. I am on medication this time, which I was not the last. I think I probably had hypertension going into my last pregnancy and didn't know it. I have read that pressures tend to be lower in the first and second trimesters, and that seems to be holding true for me this time. I only hope it lasts.

I had bad feelings at the beginning of this pregnancy too, but I have calmed down a lot. I don't know why. It's hard to just wait and worry knowing that it's kind of out of your control.

Editing to add: Do you have your own BP unit at home? I am considering getting one. I feel nervy when I am getting checked at the OB's office...because I am afraid if it's high he's going to start talking CS already...and it's a self-fufilling prophecy. My BP is WAY higher there than it is when I am at work and our school nurse checks it. I want to take my own pressures in my relaxed home rather than have to rely on the OB. Maybe if you are worried about it when your midwife is checking it, it's higher because of that.

I still have my stethascope, so I could just get a regular cuff that fits.

i am and i am not...although "science" says that statisticaly i have just a good a chance as any othe rwoman to have a live healthy term baby this time, as you can see from my sig...this is my FIFTH preg and i have one live healthy full term baby...

my other babies have all died from seperate, random, no related reasons....

i have been to every one from specialist to lay midwives and they all agree...

but b/c i just lost a full term baby in sept, for no real traceble reason, i am going in to my midwives every two weeks, i had my onb schedule me an US at 9 weeks, before i even foudn my midwives just b/c i wanted to see a heart beat....and they are down with what ever support and extra testing i want...b/c of the nature of my last loss i had a lot more blood work done than average.
adn i am will have the big US at 19-20 weeks and maybe more at 35...i will probably want non stress tests done at the end of my preg and maybe more blood work....

it is all up to me...and i have their support, which is nice.

i am 14 weeks and counting the weeks till that big US i am excited to see!

I have an incompetent cervix and just had surgery to get a cerclage placed. I am on light bedrest.

I am so sorry to of you (us) who have lost babies. and to all of us for going through the added stress and anxiety. Thank you all for your responses.

I have a perinatologist and I believe I will be going to him every other week after 20 weeks and having fetal monitoring at each visit. I am hoping for a 3D or 4D ultrasound (I don't know the difference). I know that, at least for me, the extra watchful eye will put me at ease a little bit.

I know! I find so much support here. I feel that we have "paid our dues" (sorry, I know that is a terrible way to put it)- I mean, we have been through enough and now it is our time for healthy babes. Right?

i am high risk...

#1 cervix closed during delivery...the dr. pushed her out via manual manipulation (he jumped up and put his hand on my tummy and squished her out LOL)

#2 35 wks, premature rupture of membranes (prom)

#3 30 wks, prom @ 26 wks

#4 pre-e and induction @ 37 wks

i've got incompetent cervix, but it wasn't an issue last pg...weird!

Be sure it (bp monitor) is ....I just went blank...what is the word?...Calibrated!

But if it's off...there could be some serious repercussions when you were fine.

So get it calibrated or better yet...request a nurse to come & check you once/twice a week....
