Peeling baby???

Hi everyone,

this is sort of a spin-off of the baby acne thread... my dd is three weeks old today and she has been peeling tons of skin off various parts of her body over the past week. It started with her bum, then she was peeling in her neck and armpits, then it was her forehead and now it is in the folds of the top of her legs (diaper area again)... I've never seen anything like it before. It doesn't look red or irritated at all, just tons of skin peeling off for a day or so then it disappears.

Any of you had this happen with any of your babies?

Both of my DDs (one 41w1d and one 41w0d) were born peeling and kept it up for at least the first few weeks. Totally normal. Happens for the same reason that your skin would peel if exposed to liquid for 40 weeks and then switched over to air. I think my DDs were born already peeling b/c the majority of their vernix had already worn off before birth.

We had lizard boy for a couple weeks too, mostly on his feet. Good thing the midwife warned us

Pretty common with latecomers! I've been massaging my lizard boy with olive oil, which seems to help.

It's one of those things they never tell us. Heck, my mother commented that she'd forgotten all about the peeling. If you spent nine months in a hot bath, you'd probably peel after a few dry days, too!

We've gone from the peeling and erythema toxicum to baby acne. *sigh*

We use olive oil too-love it! Also, we don't wash w soap too often. He takes a nightly soak w the family-calms down his evening fussiness so he sleeps better.

We used cocoa butter, but the dog licked it off just as soon as she could

lurking from May - my son is still a bit peely at 11 days old (just hands and feet) and was born at 38w1d - not just late babies?

My baby was also not late (39 weeks, 2 days) and the peeling is starting and stopping at random parts of her body... I'm glad to see that this isn't uncommon. I'm surprised to not have heard of this before, actually. I figured that by baby #3 I would have at least hard of most weird stuff by now!

Logan peeled too. Ankles and feet, then head, then tummy, then head some more... he was born around 38 weeks.
