I'd been stressing out over what we're going to do as far as obtaining a birth certificate for this new baby. Since we're planning a homebirth with a lay midwife, she can't get or fill out any of the forms. That, plus the fact that they don't deliver babies in our county (and all the homebirth hoopla) had me really worked up.
So, today I called the health department in our county. The lady I talked to acted like it was the most normal thing! She said I just have to come in and get the papers and as long as she can tell I'm pg by looking at me I don't need any "proof of pregnancy". She said my backup doctor would have to fill out some of the things (which my MW and I discussed) and DH and I the rest. She said after the baby is born, I just take him/her in and the papers and she'll get it finished.
I am so relieved and so happy that we're not going to have to go through a bunch of baloney.
