Just wanted to share my good news

I'd been stressing out over what we're going to do as far as obtaining a birth certificate for this new baby. Since we're planning a homebirth with a lay midwife, she can't get or fill out any of the forms. That, plus the fact that they don't deliver babies in our county (and all the homebirth hoopla) had me really worked up.

So, today I called the health department in our county. The lady I talked to acted like it was the most normal thing! She said I just have to come in and get the papers and as long as she can tell I'm pg by looking at me I don't need any "proof of pregnancy". She said my backup doctor would have to fill out some of the things (which my MW and I discussed) and DH and I the rest. She said after the baby is born, I just take him/her in and the papers and she'll get it finished.

I am so relieved and so happy that we're not going to have to go through a bunch of baloney.

Good for you! I'm quite sure it wouldn't have been so easy where I live.

That's awesome! That's one thing that worries me if I were to have a UC (still not totally sure of my birth plans).

Cool beans! I'm glad that it worked out well for you.

What a relief!

P.S. I just saw a pocket diaper that had "Born at Home" embroidered on it...you have to get one!

Lindsey, I'm so glad you got that all cleared up and it sound likes a pretty simple/routine procedure, so hopefully everything goes smoothly!

Thanks mamas! I was just so relieved and excited, so I had to share.

Alisha--I wish you much luck! Have you tried calling the health department and seeing what they say?

Isn't it sad that we have to celebrate someone *not* giving us a hard time when they don't *have* to?

Seriously, this is great!

We were spoiled last time; our CNM's took care of everything for the bc and the ssn! I've heard that our town gives homebirthers a really hard time!

I'm not even going to worry about it until the last minute this time...I don't want to get stressed out!

Lindsey, I haven't given it too much concern yet. I'm going to try the birth center here since dh won't be with me. I really wanted to homebirth, but there aren't any homebirth midwives within 4 hours of here (literally, I've researched it quite a bit). And I don't feel real comfortable UC'ing without dh. If I don't feel comfortable at the birth center, though, I will give it more consideration. At this point, I'm going to give the birth center a try though.

That's great Lindsey! One less thing to worry about and you can celebrate your little one's arrival without wondering how they will ever get into the 'system'.
