Music for labor?

post #1 of 15

I heard this song yesterday and was thinking of making a motivational CD for labor. Who else is thinking of this and what music are you putting on it??

Little Wonders by Rob Thomas:

let it go,
let it roll right off your shoulder
don't you know
the hardest part is over
let it in,
let your clarity define you
in the end
we will only just remember how it feels

our lives are made
in these small hours
these little wonders,
these twists & turns of fate
time falls away,
but these small hours,
these small hours still remain

let it slide,
let your troubles fall behind you
let it shine
until you feel it all around you
and i don't mind
if it's me you need to turn to
we?ll get by,
it's the heart that really matters in the end

our lives are made
in these small hours
these little wonders,
these twists & turns of fate
time falls away,
but these small hours,
these small hours still remain

all of my regret
will wash away some how
but i can not forget
the way i feel right now

in these small hours
these little wonders
these twists & turns of fate
these twists & turns of fate
time falls away but these small hours
these small hours, still remain,
still remain
these little wonders
these twists & turns of fate
time falls away
but these small hours
these little wonders still remain

I haven't given my play list a lot of thought yet, but I know that I will want some music there. Probably nice relaxing stuff like FrouFrou.

i plan on making a couple of different playlists, but who knows if i'll actually use them!

I did not use music last time, because we would have to bring our disc player to hook up in the room and I could not be bothered to bring another thing to the hospital to be responsible for. I might make a list this time though, because I think the birthing rooms at the midwife center are set up for music, but I am not positive. I go back forth on what I think I would want. I think it might depend on the stage of labor, but then again I might not even notice. I'll enjoy seeing what everyone's picks are and if they were helpful in a previous pregnancy.

i'm just going to set aside my most fav cd's (you know, the ones where i know all the words!) and play them really, really loud LOL unless it's the middle of the night hopefully i'll just 'get lost' in the music like last time

I used one for my first labor and it made all of the difference in the world. I labored in the shower alone for a few hours just listening to music. I was wonderful. I have no idea where that cd has gone to so I guess I will make another one.

I love women singers, so I'm sure that will be what will be on it.

I think this time I will make a fun playlist/cd that has faster & fun music that I love to listen to.

Thanks for the reminder.

Getting lost in the music sounds wonderful! I am making a list for sure and would love to hear some of everyone's favorite songs for their playlist.

I am really confused about what I'm going to want to listen to. I can't figure out if I'm going to want soothing, quiet music to keep me relaxed and calm or if I'm going to want some more passionate stuff to match what's really going to happen. What do you all think? Should I "force" myself to relax, or would the more rhythmic, passionate stuff be more authentic to what childbirth is like (well, in my experience)? I'm not one of those meditative types during birth. I make noise. I think I disturbed the entire floor last time.

Last time it was early and sudden and I left all my music at home. That's why I have no idea what listening to music will be like.

I plan on doing both- loud, rhythmic, beating, powerful and soft, slow, soothing. Two different playlists ready to go or to flip between if that's what I feel like I want!

I loved the idea of music in labor but really, it was just a distraction for me.

i did find the music was distracting near the end (ie. when transistion hit, and i couldn't handle one more sensation!), but it was very helpful in the beginning and middle, where i kind of wanted to be distracted a little bit LOL

With my daughters birth I kept singing Aerosmiths song 'Pink!' Over & over I sang pink is my favorite crayon! Pink when I turn out the the lights!...just the chorus line over & over.

I've since decided I was channeling my daughter 'cause I HATE the color pink but she LOVES it.

I played music in my head...I know...weird, but it worked for me. In Birthing Within (I think its that one or something by Penny Simpkins) theres some info about music. Theres this one cd that was really recommended but not until you're in your birth place home/birth center/hosptial cause it was so powerful it'd pop out babies just on the beat alone! I'd LVOE to have that cd.

I have a whale cd that sounds like a birthing woman....I have noticed my clients will moan/groan along with it especially during transition & late labor. It's really helpful to my shy/worried what people will think if I make a noise mom. If anyone would like it I'll copy it to the computer & send it through email to you.
