im trying to figure out what the common factor in these fruits is... my daughter gets a red blistery rash on her face and dry exema on her body after eating any of these. she also gets the redness on her face from the 100% natural chewable vit C tablets that we have. the first time she ate strawberries and watermelon she threw up (she was about 8 months old)
I avoid all of these foods, but they are all so nutritious, i would really like to figure out why she is so sensitive to them..
any ideas?

On pick me pick me! I know!

The most common fruit allergies are to strawberries, oranges, mangoes and kiwis. Here is a link. Check out grass allergies. My DS is allergic to birch, and breaks out if he eats some of the foods listed in the list for that. The body apparently confuses the food protein in all of the items you listed with pollen protein. HTH!

Its the same basics as the pollen and fruit reactions the PP was talking about. I just gave you a broken down list of how some foods can create the same reactions as other things......for instance, I am allergic to latex, therefore it would be common for me to have an intolerance to dairy, bananas, avacadoes and other things....which I actually do have an allergy to dairy and an intolerance to large amounts (more than a few tiny bites) of avacadoes and bananas. I also am allergic to grass.....melons and tomatoes give me Oral Allergy Syndrome. It doesnt always work that way though.

Check out this great website for parents:
