Very Sensitive Nipples

I wouldn't say they hurt yet and my baby is usually pretty gentle. He's not got the world's most perfect latch-I try and I try to keep that bottom lip out but it just doesn't always stay that way and it doesn't hurt when he sucks. There is really no pain during nursing (kinda the opposite), just when I touch my nipples or if my shirt rubs against them or my husband hugs me. Is this normal one-month stuff and they'll toughen up or could it start a problem? I mean after 30+ years of not being used for much, is it just that they just aren't used to being sucked on for much of the day?

I went through a period like that w/ my dd - I couldn't even let the water from the shower hit them! How long have they been this way? I think I remember it lasting a long time w/ me.

If his bottom lip won't stay out, make sure he has a wide open mouth before latching on. You may not be sore now, but it could turn into that. And, like other habits, it may be more difficult to get him to open his mouth really wide the longer it goes on.
