Connor is here - 3 weeks early

I had just posted last week looking for ideas to induce labor so I wouldn't have to do it at the hospital, and I ended up going into labor on my own about a week before my induction date! My husband rushed me to Boston and the whole birth was only 5 1/2 hours, with only about 5 minutes of pushing. After he was born they rushed him to Children's Hospital and he was 2 days in the Cardiac ICU. He was originally supposed to be on a ventilator and feeding tube but so far he has needed neither. He has totally amazed the doctors. Originally they told me he would be on lots of medications and so far he is only on one. We are now staying on the regular cardiac floor. The only problem we are having is with feeding. He sleeps very soundly all day and it is very hard to get him to eat. He latches on well but only takes a few sucks and then falls asleep. I have had 3 appointments with the lactation consultant. After a couple of days of not eating much he got dehydrated so I've been doing a bottle of pumped milk after each feeding. He only takes 1/2 to 1 ounce that way, but at least it's somthing. It has been so frustrating because my daughter breastfed so easily! But I'm trying to be patient. The doctor says if he can gain weight next week we can go home and delay the surgery for a couple of months. If he doesn't gain weight then he will have to have a additional surgery soon to delay having the real surgery until he weighs more. But the main thing is his heart is doing so much better than anyone every thought. I am so thankful for my little baby boy! We named him Connor Jameson.

Congratulations! I"m sure the nursing will get worked out I'm so glad to hear he is doing better than expected

How big is he? because 1/2 and ounce to one ounce in additioin to whatever he's getting when he 's nursing might be enough if he's a little guy

my dd had severe jaundice and I was surprised to be told that she only needed to take 27cc's of bm in order to maintain her weight (that's less than an ounce) of course she was pretty little at only 5 lbs

I'm crossing my fingers that he grows for you I'm sure bringing him home would feel wonderful right now
