Shoes that are skates

Why are they so popular? I don't get them at all and find them obnoxious. :
I too find them obnoxious and dangerous, a chiropractic visit waiting to happen.

Having given my official stance, i must stay that 2 of my kids have them: They were "dying" to get them, so I told them if they saved the money (thinking they would never save 60/pair) they could buy them. of course, they did and now they have them. Oh well, there are worse things to fight about, I guess...

There are always kids in the grocery store whizzing around on these, and I think they are as likely to injure others around them as themselves. I worry about my toddler walking around in the store while this is going on. Not to mention that it startles the crap out of me to have someone go flying by me on them! I think it's pretty irresponsible of parents to allow them to be worn in crowded situations like that. I guess if used in a safe context they're ok.

I would have loved a pair of them when I was a kid!

me too! as an adult i think they're annoying but i understand the appeal for sure.

I hate them, esp when the kids are rolling in a really busy place and knock into other people.

My dd has a pair, but she's only allowed to wear them when we are going for walks, playing outside, etc. No malls, no grocery stores, no school.

Seeing kids wearing them in busy public places makes me twitch.

I want a pair for me. :

They are banned at our local museums. That right there says they're trouble.

I think they're great. But maybe I'm just lucky that all the times I've seen kids wearing them in malls and grocery stores and such they were quite cautious and polite about it--not going too fast, slowing down around the babywearing mama, etc.

That right there is why I don't like them. And I've seen accidents with them involving other people as well. Too dangerous!

they look fun. dd has a pair . i let her wear them wherever. grocery store, target.

They look like so much fun, but I would be worried about them bumping into others or knocking stuff over.

I live in NYC where kids can't really get away from crowds ever! They are all over the place (as are scooters and other wheeled things). Here they are really great because my 4 year goes for 2-3 mile walks with us becaus he has a scooter. Lots of kids get to school on the roller shoes and it makes it much easier for them to navigate city life.

I don't find them such an issue personally, even with kids going fast. They are way down on my list of things to complain about - smoking, public urination, dog poop, taxi's honking, etc.

My daughter (7) has them and she loves them.

Well, they did it 17 years ago when I visited, I can't imagine NYC has gotten more modest since then.

I used to dislike them until my dd got them. They bring her so much joy and I don't find them to be dangerous for her at all because she uses them carefully and responsibly, and I trust her not to do anything crazy or disrespectful of others. No whizzing by people in stores, popping 360s in front of grocery carts, etc.

Crap- I typed it all out and it went POOF

Now I'm going to be short.

DD and her friends all have Heely's. They love them and have fun rolling around. For as long as she is careful not to bump into other people, dd can use hers. I refuse to give into the paranoia that just because there is a small chance dd can hurt herself, she can't do something. Those shoes just don't rise to a risk I feel I should stop her from taking. I can say this even though dd did crash pretty good- complete with an ER trip to make sure she didn't break anything.
