this is exactly what i was thinking! the difference between 2 miles & 6 miles is very minimal. it seems like you're grabbing for ideas to convince your dh but the distance doesn't seem to be the issue. when are you due? do you have time to do research with him & really convey your wishes?

Im actually not pregnant, just want to plan ahead a little!! Im hopin to try to concieve again late 2008- late 2009. Unless I get baby fever too bad before that! So that should give me plenty of time to convince him, right? The problem is, he doesn't want to hear about it right now. He doesn't want to talk about it unti we need to talk about it (I say now, but thats not how he sees It I guess) So maybe Im doomed to a hospital birth. If I could just figure a gentle way of convincing him without any nagging whatsoever.

My main thing is that I do not want to go against his desires to the point that if something did go wrong, I would feel like he was blaming me for the rest of my life (even if it was not homebirth's fault or my fault)

It's def very possible that your first babies probs were medically caused. Cytotec is really scary...gosh have hubby read up on that and it may help!=)
It's actually a drug for peptic ulcers and has never been approved for induction...can cause infant and maternal death, ect...(taken from Peggy O'Mara's _Having a Baby Naturally_--great book, btw). GL! Nicole

You arent going to believe this, I also had Cytotec in my last 2 births (they were wonderful) You wanna know the difference? 1) A different doctor 2) The different doc in my last 2 good births gave the Cytotec VERY CAUTIOUSLY< SLOWLY<and SMALL DOSAGES AT ONE TIME.

THe doctor I had in my bad expereince first birth gave large doses of Cytotec, not cautiously at all compared to the other doctor, and what did I get ? Contractions right on top of each other, almost piggyback, and they were searing contractions, too. (30 seconeds between contractions?)

I have read BAD stuff about cytotec, and do not use this unless you read up on it. BUt my doctor gave me a choice between cytotec and pitocen in my last birth and I chose cytotec. I ended up pretty much starting my own Labor with Labor Balm (belly balm) and castor oil in root beer. She gave me one tiny dose of cytotec, but not any more, she said my body was making progress. Yay!!

That was my first thought. You are not that far from the hospital in your own home. Why drive in labor and have to set up everything while you are in labor when you could have everything ready for you at home? Midwives carry oxygen and can ressucitate (sp?) a baby at home just as well as in a motel.

Cytotec could have very well caused the breathing problems in your previous birth anyway.

Now my first idea is sounding dumb!! I am getting more out of the notion of it. The midwife probably wouldnt even agree because we live so close anyway.

This is a great topic though IMO anyways. I am actually contemplating a "motel birth". I have an incredible (INCREDIBLE) midwife that does birth center births and hospital births, but cannot do a birth center birth for me (I'm a VBAC). If I were to end up going to the hospital, I would truly and totally want it to be with her. I'm seeing her for prenatal care and planning a UC (VBACS arent "allowed" to have assisted homebirths : ). The problem being... I live an hour away from her. I want to keep my options open as far as ... if I feel the need, I want to be able to head to the hospital (I have some BP issues in every pregnancy) and if I don't I want to just stay home w/ no pressure either way. Being so far I feel like I would have to commit to something either way pretty early (w/ my first labor - csec was w/ no labor - I thought I had a good 3-4 hrs more to go easily and baby popped out 15 min later)
