First labor induced, how long was your second?

My first birth was induced (from NOTHING) because I was overdue. All told, I had six hours of ouchie labor and then 2 hours of pushing. Aside from pitocin, I didn't have any other meds (no pain meds at all). I'm expecting again this July and my MW keeps saying that for a second birth you can expect half the time for the first part of labor (the ouchie part) and half the time for the second part of labor (the pushing part). She seems to think that it doesn't make a difference whether you were induced the first time or not. That doesn't really make sense to me, considering the way pitocin works, but I could be confused. This time I'm having a homebirth (hopefully!) and I've heard that hb's tend to be somewhat faster anyway, because the mama is more relaxed...

I guess what I'm asking is, is there anyone out there who went through a similar situation and how much difference in length was your first labor from your second?

My friend just had her second baby. Her first was induced with Pitocin and took 6 hours - her second wasn't induced, and took 11 hours. For both she only pushed a few times.

First labor induced (with cytotec and no pit) for "post-dates" 9 hours, second labor SROM at home, took 11 hours.

DD1: 3 hours 8 minutes, pushed for 5 mintues.
DD2: 47 mintues, pushed for less than a minute.

Induced both times. I was induced with with pitocin with DD1 and AROM with DD2.

Twin ds: induced with cervidil (no pit or AROM), 8h of labor, 30m of pushing.

dd: spontaneous PROM, no ctx for about 8h, then about 5h of labor, 10m of pushing.

I'm not sure it's accurate to say that pushing time is half; it depends on a variety of things. Baby's position, does mom have an epidural?, is she feeling the urge to push or is the doc/mw just saying that she's complete? etc.

nak

for me it was different

1- induced 6 hours plus 30 min pushing (also had epidural)

2- natural homebirth 29 hours total, 2 pushes

3- natural birth (hospital transfer) 42 hours, 2 pushes again

DD1 - Induced, Cervidil, pit. epidural(7hrs. into labor)12hrs. labor 30 mins. pushing.

DD2 - Spontaneous labor, no drugs at all. 4 hrs(well 6 hrs if you count the 2 I slept thru, so I don't count them, because they weren't painful enough to keep me up) labor about 10 mins. pushing.

They were only 4 ounces apart in weight.

1st, induced, with little to no dilation/effacement, epidural: cervadil for 4 hrs, then pitocin starting at about 1:00pm. AROM around the same time. started pushing at 9:00pm, baby born at 9:55 pm.

2nd, spontaneous labor, but had a few weeks of prodromal labor ahead of time. "Real" contractions started at 4:00am, kept intensifying throughout morning, started pushing around 12:00pm. Baby was a little lodged, and started turning posterior, so pushed in many positions, trying to get him to descend and turn the right way. No real problems, however, just pushing took longer than my midwife expected it to. 1hr 30 minutes of pushing, baby born around 1:30 pm.

1st-cervedil induction x2, failed, back home and ret'd 18 hours later, pit induction midnight to 9 am no change, AROM at nine, a dose of stadol about 1100, baby at 3.04 pm pushed about 5 times. They held me back because they weren't ready

2nd-noticed contrx about 7.30 am, home waterbirth at 4.03 pm pushed a couple of times-she was gigantic

I say my labors were about the same length, 8 hours.

#1-induced with AROM and cytotec
5 hours early labor
6 hours active labor

#2-SROM
30.5 hours early/stalled labor
3.25 hours active labor
First induced with pit and AROM, total active labor 14 hours with 3 hours of pushing. Also had an epidural.

Second started labor on my own, did it naturally in the hospital. total active labor 8 hours with 12 minutes of pushing.

Both babies were about the same size, just over 9 lbs (with the second slightly larger) and I pushed in the same position with both of them.

First labour...terrible, induced. I was overdue too, at 41 weeks:

Second labour, spontaneous rupture of waters at 38w3 and "easy" labour water broke at 11:18, active labour from 3:00 or so and delivery at 4:28 only complication was malpositioning(posterior ascyclintic with compound hands)...which was't complicated in any way. no tears and healthy babe.

My first was induced, was almost 50 hours of labor. My second one was not induced, and I was in labor for several days! Friday for maybe 7-8 hours or so, then Saturday night it started again and went for about 33 1/2 hours.

1st -- 42 weeks, induced with cytotec, then pitocin and manual dialation of my cervix (forcing it open manually). 80+ hrs (almost 72 on pitocin).

2nd -- 40 weeks, natural labor, no meds. 13 hrs.

I was induced from nothing and that labor was 18 hours before I had a c-section. Never got to the pushing stage.

My second labor was at home and it was 22 hours.
