midwife treatment for dyspareunia?

I am curious what if any treatments midwives commonly offer for dyspareunia?

I have been referred to a gynecology practice that has a specialty in various disorders including treating dyspareunia, but I was curious if there is anything more robust that midwives could offer that would be worth exploring instead of or in addition to said gynecological treatment.

Also -- is this something that I would be able to find out about if I telephoned local midwives or would I require an office visit?

For my first child I delivered with a CNM whom I did not return to for my second child but would consider a different midwife if helpful.

Thanks!

A midwife may or may not be able to treat you, but probably would have some good information about other local sources of help.

i feel pretty lucky that we have a lot of good resources in my area for women who are having trouble with painful sex or other pelvic pain. My local teaching hospital has a great program where women who are having trouble with pelvic pain see massage therapists, physical therapists, mental health workers, and OBs for relief. I have had two clients visit them in the past and get help from pelvic pain that was caused by muscle spasms after traumatic childbirth.

On the opposite side of the spectrum, one of the homebirth midwives in my area offers Mayan uterine massage and I have heard that is very helpful for painful sex when the problem is more deeply internal than a skin or external muscle problem. I also got a lot of relief from some pelvic pain that I was having through acupuncture.

I, personally, as a homebirth midwife with my training, could probably only offer help with pain as a result of external injury (like badly sutured skin) and even then, probably only if it were a relatively minor fix. But I would know where I would want to send you for help if the issue was more involved.

Good luck and good healing.

Okay, that's helpful. Thank you for your thoughtful reply. I think I will try the program I have been referred to & see how that goes.

rule out BV often mycoplasma will cause tenderness and be hard to identify- it is generalized internal tenderness and can make for a painful internal exam like when the cervix is moved and there is a deeper pain--
also rule out chlamydia
so knowing where the pain is also helps to find what to do or try
is it pain on the perineum where there was a repair? herbal soaks and use St John's wort oil --- possible need for reconstructive repair
is it varicosities- horse chestnut internally and witch hazel topically --- consider some diet changes
is it vestibulitis?
change position or depth
if it is bone maybe adjustments-
also use toughens tissues and less frequent causes for more tender friable tissues----

Thanks for advice; not a matter of STDs -- it's a post-partum issue. Appreciate the advice from both of you.
