Found this link on another website and it is just simply infuriating!!! A nurse thinks she is "saving" lives from co-sleeping by giving out home made bassinets which end up being rubbermade containers.
Here are some quotes from the article:
"They were more than gifts of love. They had the power to save lives.
``There are still a lot of kids sleeping with their family because they have no bed,'' said Mahoney, the Women's & Children's Services director at Tampa General Hospital.
Yet this situation, known as co-sleeping, can lead to injuries and even death.
In 2001, 96 babies in Florida died of sudden infant death syndrome; of those, 45 suffocated or were strangled, Mahoney said.
No accurate data exists to show how many deaths were caused by co-sleeping, but clearly environment plays a big role in children's safety, Mahoney said. Health care officials are beginning to track deaths related to co-sleeping.
Although some researchers say co-sleeping is healthier for the baby, others find an infant sleeping with a parent is 20 times more at risk of death than when sleeping alone.
In some cases, parents have smothered babies accidentally by rolling on top of them.
Two weeks ago, a 2-week- old boy died while sleeping with his mother. Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office detectives reported that the baby rolled off his mother's bed and landed facedown in a laundry basket half-filled with clothes. "
I would like to know what Rubbermaid would say about this!! I am sure their legal department would be thrilled to know. I would also like to know James McKenna's thought on this.
I need some of your activist to get on this one. I want this woman to know how wrong she is about co-sleeping!!!

: Also, she makes co-sleeping into a class issue, by implying that people co-sleep because of poverty and not a conscious decision to do what is best for their babies.

Where is the "research" to back that one up?
