Is this your first winter baby?

Ok, give me the skinny on winter babies! I have 2 children, but both were born in the spring (actually, we were aiming for a spring baby this time, but he/she had different ideas ).

Any veterans out there with other winter children? What do I need to know? I'm :

All my babies have been born in December... One was due in November, and the other in January... BOTH BORN IN DECEMBER!
This baby is due 9 January, the exact same due date at DD#2! I guess we will see if #3 follows suit! ;-)

winter babies... well, depending on how nasty your weather is...
I know a common concern around here for our winter newborns is RSV. I have had ZERO problems like that, my babies have fortunately been very healthy...
I did think it was kind of funny/interesting that neither of them ever touched their bare feet to the earth until spring!!!!! Almost as if they were in a time out of time until then, a waiting period before FULLY joining us!

This is also my first winter baby. Both my girls are May. I think it's going to be very different this time around. I know I've never felt a need to keep my babies indoors for any reason. I've felt good enough to go shopping and stuff within a week of their births, so why couldn't they go with me?? I'm sure I'll need to rethink that this time around... though my mom had a December baby, and she said it wasn't a big deal... just make sure they're bundled properly. (Most people in my area here refuse to take their newborns out until they're at least six weeks... even in the summer, I always thought that was going overboard.)

I was lucky with my first, she got a little jaundice and even though it was cold outside, it was sunny, and we were able to lay in the sunny window.
Having babies in winter for me was great because I usually HATE winter (nothing to do) and I'm SO busy in the spring and summer.
well- babies SURE give you something to do all winter!!! It makes hibernation great!

This is my second winter baby. My son was born in February. I don't know as there would be anything I would have done differently if they had been born in spring/summer. If anything, spring always seemed to coincide with some developmental milestones so it did seem to make them seem so much more special.

The only interesting thing was the fact that the day we went home from the hospital it snowed quite heavily! There was even a tree down in the road on the way home. We'll be birthing at home this time, though so that shouldn't be an issue!

I have been wondering the same thing - thanks for posting this!

Ds was born in the summer in GA so he mostly just wore a diaper and maybe a onesie. It was so nice because they are so tiny and floppy in the beginning. Now I will have to think about footies and socks and hats and maybe a fleece sling and . . .

This will be my second winter baby. My oldest is also a January babe. It gets warm pretty early in the year here though, so I didn't have to do a lot of bundling. He usually just wore a footie sleeper, a fleece one if it was chilly out. My second was a Junebug, which was super nice because I could just keep him in a onesie all the time! Much easier for diaper changes. Although this time around I know how to knit, so I'm planning on making at least a couple pairs of longies for the new babe.

I had one in december and one in august so I've had both extremes. I was really hoping for a spring baby this time, too but we got a head start!

I was kind of a pain making sure he was bundled up: coat, blanket, socks, hat- but not too bundled that he was over-heating. But on the other hand, it was so miserably hot with my august baby that we didn't really venture outside much. And being hugely preggo in the winter vs. summer was a million times more comfortable!

I am really looking forward to using my fleece sling again-so comfy-. And there is something nice about snuggling inside a warm house on a cold winter day with a new baby.

I have had a previous winter baby..actually EDD right around the same time for #3 and this one (#5). I actually liked the winter the best.. maybe it was because it was my UC.. maybe it was because I felt more peaceful, solitary, etc. and people just left me alone so I could gestate in peace..and yeah..well, caller id is great too. But seriously, most people get so wrapped up in their holiday traditions and stuff around the holidays, (we don't really get into all that) and so.. well.. it was nice.. and peaceful. We also lived in this little tiny rental trailor at the time..on top of a huge hill over looking a small pond. The hill was all iced up..so no coming or going, pretty much. I LOVED it. Sometimes I long to shut myself all iced in, in a tiny trailor on a hill again My babymoon was SWEET.

this is our 2nd winter baby. I don't think I would've done anything differently for a spring baby. My first was a c-section, so we didn't leave the house after we got home for a couple weeks anyway.

Oooh, that sounds nice.

Dd was born in April in GA, so a NY baby in Jan should be different. I think it might be nice to be all snuggled up in the house for a bit!

My last one was born February 1st, and I liked having a winter baby. I had DH get groceries for me the first few weeks, and as soon as the weather started warming up we were ready to get out and enjoy it! I will say that I preferred my April baby, as I thought it was easier dressing/getting in and out without so many layers. I plan to get several cute jammies and one-peices w/ feet and not many 2 piece outfits, as they shirts seem to ride up or cause a draft, kwim? I think I will also get a few hats for this one.

Oh!! I've always wanted cute winter hats!! My girls refused to wear hats by the time winter came around... thankfully, they were mostly carried and had hoods on their snowsuits, but I'm excited for cute newborn hats!!

this will be my second winter baby.. i also have a late autumn one. its a nice time of year to have a baby.. you aren't huge when its super hot.. you get to snuggle up in your cozy house with your new baby or go on a crisp walk and bundle them all up in wool. i guess im biased since ive never had a summer/spring baby but autumn and winter are 2 my favorite months

This will be our first winter baby, and we've just moved from Las Vegas to Montana to boot! I'm too impatient to knit, but I guess I can have fun scoping out all the cute longies and hats!!!

This will be my third winter baby. I love having a baby in the winter, it is so nice. I like the little hats and I use the mittens anyway (those little mitts so they don't scratch their faces). I keep it warm in my house during the winter anyway, warm enough that I don't need my sweater. And I love sleepers better than onesies, they just make babies look so cuddly and cute! Basically inside I'd have the baby in a sleeper and some mitts (they are just a circle of cloth, not even a thumb). Outside I generally put a onesie, socks, mittens, hat, then a sleeper over. I tuck a blanket around the baby. With my two boys I had that carseat that you click in and out of the car and stroller. I got rid of that but might get another, it was just so easy to click the baby in and go. But this will be the first baby I use a sling with so that might help. The only concern I have when I take my babies out is people trying to touch them. But with the stroller/carseat combo I could pull up both shades and hide the baby from people. But I'm thinking a sling might have the same effect.

Also, if people want to touch my babies, they have to wash their hands. Upon entering my house even. It makes some people mad and others think I'm crazy for it but my kids have never had RSV and I'd like to keep it that way.

I enjoyed the carseat/base because I could bring the carseat in the house and make sure the baby was all bundled before we walked out the door. With DD#2 that was the only time I ever took it out of the car. It was also nice for summer babies, because we don't have a garage, and DD#1's front-facing carseat would get super hot sitting in the driveway. I don't think car temps were much of a problem in the winter though.
