Sigh. I'm too far away for people to come out here in the winter.

Because of weather worries in Dec/Jan. These worries aren't far off, we usually get quite a bit of snow and whichever midwife agreed would have to travel mostly back roads and county roads with uncertain plowing. Travel back and forth is over an hour and a half on clear days, just because there isn't a direct route. But I'm dissapointed and a bit at a loss for what to do. I have read about women renting hotel rooms, but for me that is not what I want - I want to give birth *here* at my *home.*

I guess I just wanted to whine a bit to people who would understand, and not people who would say "You should just look at local birthing centers, some are quite nice"

I can totally understand how that would be disappointing.

Aww, I'm sorry about that. I will say, I never thought about it with my DD, but in planning our second child, DH and I are choosing to have a spring/summer/fall baby for the exact same reasons. We had six inches of snow on Easter this year, so we need to be careful.

Maybe you could persuade/blackmail/kidnap a midwife to camp out at your place around the time you're expecting the birth? Or UC...

I'm in the same boat, only I'm supposed to deliver this summer either late July or early August. The FNP at the docs office said that there used to be a midwife in canonsburg, but she's not there anymore...and we live an hour away from the hospital. I know how you feel! That's why I'm going to do a UC and have a backup plan (God forbid) of doing a transfer if something goes wrong. I just hope I don't have to...ugh. I'm starting to take nettles for the vitamin K that helps with clotting. I wish you luck with whatever happens! Is this your first child? It's my first, but so far I don't feel nervous or anything about wanting to do a UC WB at home.

My husband and I are discussing UC. Its something that I'm a bit more open to than he is. The thought of kidnapping a midwife around the holidays seems... well a tad bit antisocial I am thinking about calling them all again, explaining that I've been turned down all around and seeing if anyone will relent. This is my second baby, and my first birth, while very eventful for us, was not by any means a birth in need of medical intervention so I have confidence that my body can do it, the baby can do it and hopefully my husband can do it too

Keep after mw's.

Here where I live there are gobs of mw's in Sacramento but none of them will drive this 'far'. We are only an hour + from there.

I was preparing to drive 800 miles to use my old mw when one mw in Sac decided to take me on. She drives out here for all prenatals

Something akin to the squeaky wheel gets the oil. She got tired of hearing from me. She knew I had 3 hb and wasn't setting foot anywhere near a hospital or birthing center. And if I was willing to travel 800 miles I was serious.
