piggy bank craft for 3yo?

anyone have any great ideas? we may try paper mache but I need to get my courage up to face that mess first!

don't know the web site but i made one years ago
I used a bleach bottle a egg carton child friendly paint and goggle eyes oh one of those chenille sticks [for the tail] and cardboard
first i cut a 'money hole' in the back of the piggy [carefully using a craft knife]
I got my egg carton which makes the legs I cut out each little egg caddie [the bit that holds the egg] try and cut a bit further than you think you need so you can glue it on the bottom of the bleach container I then glued [using PVA] 4 of these for feet I left the lid on for the nose I used a hole punch to make 2 holes in the lid [nostrils] or you can glue on 2 black circles of paper after painting I cut out 2 ears from cardboard and glued them on top i think it was a triangle but on the bottom straight piece i cut in 1/4" to make tabs to be able to glue them down on a slight curve on the top easier
Once the legs and ears are dried and firm i painted my piggy pink [of course] i think i painted her a number of times to get good coverage a rough- up with sandpaper helped the paint adhere to the plastic once dry I then glued on the goggle eyes I got the chenille stick which i twisted it round a pencil several times I either glued it on the flat end or sticky taped it

cute idea! and it sounds like it will be alot easier than paper mache too!

I use the cardboard drums with plastic lids that you get gravy mix/hot chocolate in. Just cut a coin sized slot in the lid and decorate away.

When doing it with little ones I cut a strip over paper to wrap round the drum and the children decorate the paper then I stick it on. You can also use the drum as a base for your paper mache
