Anyone else love these books???

I adore these actually...I own all seven, including two copies of book one. My MIL bought me a copy of the second run of the first book, the one before he went back and made all the changes, interesting to compare the different versions. I am working on getting any and all of the other books that tie into this, and intend to get the comic series that is out.

When I read them I thought they were big LOTR rip offs, and I remember noticing another very, very strong influence besides that but I can't think og it right now. I was really disappointed, since I am an avid King reader. They were good books, but the parallels were too strong for me to be able to read them without constantly stopping to compare them to other books.

I loved them (and anxiously awaited each new one for the last several) until the rip-off that was #7.

I try to pretend that it just doesn't exist, but it's hard. very hard.

Not trying to start an argument, but I am curious. Can you be a bit more specific as to why you thought that? I've read both, and can't see the parallels as easily....

I love the Dark Tower series. I started reading them when I was 10 (1991)and it seemed like it took forever for him to finish the series.

Changes? What changes? Now I'm going to have to go looking for other copies of that book.

I own them all and loved them. I felt really robbed by the ending though, that's all I'm gonna say.: And yes, it's obvious that King was and is a huge Tolkein fan, and also a Clint Eastwood/western movie fan.
I still love that series and read it every couple of years.

I would have to pull them out, since I haven't read them in a long time. I should ask my DP because I distinctly remember making him listen while I ranted about it. I am a big Tolkien fan, so maybe it was more obvious for me when I read them because I've read so much Tolkien.

It was continuity errors, and typographical changes. Like Susan's name, Jake's name was different I believe, he fixed stuff like that, I could give more specific examples but I'd have to look them up first.

Mamma Mia, if you happen to remember anything, let me know, LOL, it has me wondering enough to reread both series to try to compare. Not that rereading them is a bad thing.....

Yeah, I'm actually not a huge fan of the series, but I'm one of those people that will read the back of shampoo bottles. And, since it was in the house because dh LOVES them, I read them.

After all those hundreds of thousands of words, the Crimson King turns out to be

Warning :: Spoiler Ahead! Highlight to read message!
an erasable raging Santa Claus? How lame was that?

The worst part is that dh is saving the last one for a rainy day, and I'm afraid he'll be really disappointed.

DH and I are both huge fans of the DT series. I turned him on to them, back when it was still years between sequels. Now HE has read the entire series and I have not!

I'm amazed no one's mentioned that the DT series is now out in COMIC BOOKS!!! We are buying two of every edition to keep one set pristine as a collector's set. The illustrations are AWESOME!!!!!

I'd love to have a few t-shirts with quotes from the DT series
