need baby-movin' vibes!!! *update*

So, I'm getting a little nervous about ending up with an in hospital induced birth... (planning to birth at a fsbc)

I'm 38 weeks 2 days with twins and being monitored like a hawk b/c of placenta and fluid issues from last month. For the past two or three weeks of monitoring, everything has looked perfect - so my mw and back up ob have been content to watch and see what happens. But, here are my concerns now...

Just this week, my bp has started to rise. My mw says that it's definitely not hypertensive at this point, but that we need to keep an eye on it (3 out of the 5 pregnancies my sister's have had were induced for pih). And just this week I've started to get some pretty good swelling in my feet - although no pitting, so I think it's mainly attributed to the walking I've been doing to try to help things along. Also, the baby whose fluid we were initially concerned with may be starting to drop again. Last week we measured it at 15 cm (how it got back up that high after being at 4 at 33 weeks, I'll never know) and this week it was 10. I'm hoping she was just hiding some of it and we can get a higher measurement today.

Anyway, I'm starting to feel like if my bp rises at all or if her fluid drops at all - then I'll be off to the hospital for the third time, only this time, I'm pretty sure I'd come home with the babies. Which at this point, I feel confident that they'd be healthy and ready to come home - but I'd definitely be less comfortable with an in hospital birth...

So, since last Friday, my mw has tried twice to strip my membranes so we can get this show on the road but my cervix has yet to open enough. Monday, she said it was noticeably softer and a "dimple" dilated... I'm really hoping that today it's opened a bit more and she can do it, or that I'll just labor naturally in the next couple of days.

I've come so far and so close to getting a wonderful, natural, out of hospital birth with these twins - I'd hate to lose it now!!!

I can't believe how great you are doing with twins. I will definately be sending some labor vibes your way. Maybe things will be looking up today. Heres to wishing you ample amniotic fluid, a dilated cervix, and normal bp.

I'm not in your due date club, but I'm sending twin birth vibes your way. My BP was slightly elevated on my last prenatal visit with the midwife. My twins arrived at 38.5 weeks, just about where you are now.

Well... nothing different yet. Fluid's the same, bp's the same, and my stubborn cervix still won't open. But no talk of induction yet, so that's good. After 36 weeks of begging babies to stay in, they're not listening to me telling them to get out!

Oh, I SOOOOOO hear you on that! I had mine at 38 weeks, 2 days, and thought they were NEVER going to come!

My blood pressure did have a slight rise towards the end, but not much. Remember, Having Twins and More by Elizabeth Noble mentions that a bit of a rise in twin pregnancy is just a normal accommodation to the extra blood supply you have to be pumping, so you have a little more leeway there than your sister might have.

Also, you may want to try Evening Primrose Oil if you haven't. I began taking it around 37 weeks, and had the babies around 10 days later. Maybe it was a fluke, but I can't help but think that the EPO helped prepare my cervix for an easier labor.

*nevermind-- just read in the EPO thread that you're already taking it.

Have you thought of asking your midwife about a low dose of black cohosh and blue cohosh? There's some good info online about taking lower than normal doses to help give things a little kick. Like maybe 5-10 drops of each in a glass of tea once or twice a day? I'd at least ask about it.

I'll ask about the cohosh tomorrow...we've been trying just about everything else and so far the best I can do is get my bh to get a little stronger and more regular at night, but no real progress with them.

Thanks for the reminder about bp. My mw didn't seem concerned yet, I'm just so paranoid about anything that might land me in the hospital! But at least now, if I do end up with a hospital birth, my main concerns are all just me getting my way (being able to walk around, no guided pushing, etc) and not for the health of the babies so much anymore. These girls are hearty and they'll do just fine however they come out - I'm pretty convinced!

BTW, don't get discouraged. With my first two sons, I never dilated to anything until I was in labor. I don't think I'd dilated with my twins either (and their labor was fast). When your body's ready, it can make lots of changes fast.

Today's bpp showed a drop in fluid again. Nst's were great though, and bp is still normal. My mw was *finally* able to strip my membranes today and hopefully that will get labor started soon!!! Otherwise, I'm back on bedrest with lots of water for until my bpp on Wednesday and if there's no improvement with fluid, then we start talking inductions...

I'm 39 weeks today - hopefully these babies will take the hint and get on the move!!!

Good luck. Hope the "sweep" works. Worked for me 2 weeks ago.
