Britax RF height limits- carseat techs please!

There has been a question once more about Britax seats and rear facing limits. The manuals *seem* to say the top of the ears. I've also heard that for RF the head MUST be inside the shell.

Can we clarify this? Or is it a grey area?

Not a tech, just a fellow Britax snob

For rearfacing, the head must be completely encased within the shell. For forward facing the EARS must be encased within the shell AND the shoulders must be at or below the topmost harness position.

That's my understanding as well, but it still seems to be a point of confusion, thought I'd get a tech to weigh in then I can link the questioning thread back here

There was some ambiguity in earlier manuals. Several calls to Britax got the situation straigtened out and now in new manuals it's in black and white, fortunately

I thought that as well- then pulled up the roundabout to check (the seat most likely to face the question) It's still unclear. I found no specific reference to the head being inside the shell for RF.

when you say you "pulled up the roundabout" do you mean you looked in the user guide at the britax site here: http://www.britaxusa.net/pdf/guide_roundabout.pdf
page 30 of the guide has the specific statement that the child has outgrown the seat if the tops of the ears are above the top of the shell of the seat or the child is taller than 40" (whichever comes first).

or was it somewhere else you were looking?

Angela a friend of mine called and they said that for RF the top of the head needed to be inside the top of the shell. So if top of her head is even with top of shell it's time to turn her around.

That is for a child who is forward facing. She specifically wants to know when they are too tall to continue rear facing.

Yep. That's what I saw.

BUT techs have said before that the whole head needs to be in the shell for RF.

I'm trying to get a confirmation.

Yes, the head must be inside the shell when RF. (I'm a tech!).
