Cincinnati Birth Provider (x-posted in Tribe)

Hello all!

Since the birth center in Cincinnati shut my friend is struggling with finding the right care for her next pregnancy. The birth center midwives and I (a homebirth midwife) have ruined her expectations! She does not want a home birth but would like as close as she can get in a hospital (she knows there is no birth center around).

Does it exhist around Cincinnati? A hospital based person who will be on call for you 24/7, sees you prenatally and has excellent stats? Here where I live in MA it does...besides homebirth we have two hospital based midwives and one doctor who provides this kind of service.

She did get a reco for Dr. Oak (a DO & Family Practice person), would you all recommend her? WHat kind of services does she offer. (My friend has a call into her but hasn't heard back and would like recos anyway.)

Any other ideas would be wonderful!

Thanks much! Paige

It's a small world after all!

She wants Dr. Daniel Bowen. Yes, he's an OB but he has the best VBAC rates in town and it's just him in his practice. He beats out most of the nurse-midwives I have ever met. He did a really awesome job with a homebirth transport that ended in repeat c-section with my preceptor and I. He was amazingly respectful and has earned our eternal devotion. He attends births at Bethesda North and Mercy Fairfield.

If she's up for traveling there is Family Beginnings birth center up in Dayton. It is a birth center located in Miami Valley hospital and is serviced by two CNMs. I've heard good things and some iffy things. Definitely get a doula. Family Beginnings

I'm not familiar with Dr. Oak. I've heard good things of a Dr. Amy Ruschulte on the west side of town who is a family practice doctor who occasionally attends births.

If she changes her mind about homebirth, one of the DEM midwives associated with Midwives Care attends births here. Two friends of mine who were pregnant and lost care when MWC closed had births with her- it was the closest they could get to continuity of care.

If you want, you can have her email me (or phone me). I can talk about this for ages
