hi all i think i am finally ready to dive into the writing world. but i find it too daunting and i need to find a discipline about it.

where do i find simple writing exercises online. where it gives u a topic to write on. i searched here and on google but didnt come up with anything constructive.

its like being given a topic to write on. i am to uninspired to come up with something myself. i need a topic to inspire me.

i would appreciate any help.

I highly recommend the book "Pen on Fire" by Barbara DeMarco-Barrett. It has excellent advice for writer moms and lots of exercises to get you going. This is actually great for all levels of writers. I found it really helpful for making small chunks of time productive.

another great book!

I just got this one about a week ago and I am absolutley loving it. I look forward to this everyday now! it has a prompt for each day then the book is divided into months and each chapter is about various topics pertaining to writing of course. nice! I just read the first page of June and had to come post about this book!

I think I like it so much because the prompts can be deep or not depending on your mood. for instance today's is,

write about,
something to hold on to..

btw can we list our favorite writing prompt sites here? oh and just a tip, if you google "journaling prompts" you will come up with some more great ones too.

I can't believe this no one has mentioned THE ARTIST WAY by Julia Cameron.... it is like a 12 step workbook for writers (and all creative people) that will get you on the ball if you make it thru all 12 weeks which was hard for me. When I did it changed my life!!!
