has anyone changed their answering machine message....

to tell people Baby is not here yet but thanks for calling? my mw told me about a past client who did this because of all the phone calls she was receiving. i'm getting to that point & i'm only 40w3d. people have been "checking in" for about 3 weeks now & i'm starting to be irritated. our neighbor actually called today to see if i was in labor because she noticed all the cars out front!? WHAT!? i like this particular neighbor...don't get me wrong....but why on earth would she call if she thought i was in labor? thankfully she talked with my husband but when he told me about it (he thought it was funny) i became irritated. he started to chastise me for getting worked up but he backed off because i think he realized he hasn't been pregnant for over 40 weeks & everyone isn't breathing down his neck to have a baby.

Well I got a new answering machine and the standard mechanized voice is on there all un-welcoming. . .but I was considering it. We will see. My dh's aunt (OB nurse :Puke) called 3X today and I didn't answer. After our last convo where she gave the baby an upper limit of 41 weeks I don't want to talk anymore.
Actually I don't want to talk much to anyone. My mom, yes. My DH, yes. A friend now and then, sure. But my phone enjoyment has declined. I was anti-talk/anti-social when I was in labor last time and I think this prodromal stuff has put me there again. I wonder how long it will last.

wow annemarie. That is along the same lines that i wanted to leave on my phone.... as of right now it just says. "NO baby yet, if you still want to leave a message. go ahead." My doula called this am while i was in the shower and she is laughing her head off in the message after hearing this. I am guessing it is getting across to all those with belly check calls as they have diminished in the last few days.

LOL your doula must have loved that!
the best part about my voice mail is after you leave a message it goes into "delivery options" LOL

An older woman from my church drove by my house yesterday and saw that our side screen door was propped open and called to make sure everything was all right. ?! She's my back-up driver for the hospital, nice woman. But that cracked me up. DS hadn't closed the door from when I hauled in all the groceries I had to go buy with my probably broken toe at 39 weeks pregnant...: I'm sure the calls will get less amusing as the days go by...

Fortunately, my inlaws have learned after 3 hb's to back off a bit. They just e-mail every so often.

A very dear friend call, but thats OK She had some very good news to share.

This time its actually the best we ever had at people not bothering us.

We have before turned off the ringer and turned down the volume of the answering machine so we wouldnt hear it.

My prob isn't so much people calling me, it's when I call someone, they get all excited when they answer the phone. "Is it time? Did you have it?" And I'm like "No, I just want to know if I could speak to my husband, please?" Or whatever reason I have for calling. I can't call my mom anymore for fear of giving her a heart attack or something. That's ok, I don't want to talk to much of anyone anyway.

this is me, too! whenever i call someone i have to quickly say "i'm not in labor" before i get to the point of my call. and if i happen to get VM, i don't even leave a message because i know they won't even listen to it without quickly calling me back in anticipation. it's kinda funny, really. i feel like i have everyone at my beck & call.

Yeah it's sad. Everytime I call someone these days, as soon as they answer I say, "hi, no baby yet. I was calling because_______"

I hate calling people these days. And I'm not answering my phone either. I think a lot of my friends are getting worried because they are calling and leaving messages and not hearing back from me. I just don't want to talk about it right now. I guess it's time for me to change my answering maching

well, i went ahead & did it. i left a very brief message on the machine saying..."Hi. This is the ____'s. Baby Ezra is still on the inside. Please leave us a message." I tried getting dd1 to record it but she kept saying "baby ezra is on the side" and i thought it might sound strange. after about 5 attemps, she gave up & ran away....
